Chapter 126
One of the IOUS spelled it out clearly: [Daniel Parks and Mona Parks owe me 30 thousand from gambling. This note serves as proof. Both Daniel and Mona had signed at the bottoin.
Mona’s face burned with embarrassment. She remembered this IOU. It was from the very first time she and Daniel went out gambling.
Back then, she didn’t really understand how any of this worked. It wasn’t until someone pointed it out to her that she started being careful. After that, whenever she wrote an IOU, she only used Daniel’s name. That was how Daniel ended up owing over 300 thousand dollars during that period.
The chat was still blowing up with questions, but Mona had no way to respond. All she could do was awkwardly end the livestream.
Flustered, she scrambled to get in touch with Maxine, but it was already too late. Maxine’s phone wouldn’t go through, and when Mäna tried to reach her through the entertainment platform, she realized Maxine had already blocked her public account.
With no other options, she had to make a new burner account just to DM her.
To her surprise, Maxine replied almost instantly: [I’m not paying a single cent of your debt. If you bother me again, I’ll send all the evidence straight to the police.]
Mona didn’t really get all this, and the cash she had left was barely enough to scrape by. Terrified of getting hauled off to the police station, she agreed right away, promising she wouldn’t stir up any more trouble.
But there was still another problem. Her address had basically been exposed by her livestreams, so she had no choice but to keep moving from place to place.
She’d always relied on her streaming income to get by. As usual, Mona tried to cash out her earnings from the platform, only to find her account had already been banned.
All her money was frozen by the platform too.
“Mom! I’m out of money!” Miles burst in from outside, yelling at her.
Sweat beaded on Mona’s forehead as her mind spun in chaos. She didn’t say a word, and Miles grew impatient. “Give me another big bill! Those people don’t believe you’re a big internet celebrity. I need to prove it to them!”
When Mona stayed silent, Miles even walked over and grabbed her by the shirt. “Hurry up! What are you doing?”
Mona couldn’t take it anymore. She slapped him and shouted, “You ungrateful brat! Even your sister doesn’t care about us anymore! I don’t have a single
cent left!”
Miles had never been treated like this by her before. He froze for a second, then plopped down
Mona was just about to say something when she heard a knock at the door. “Does Mona live here?”
floor and started bawling.
The voice sounded all too familiar. Mona’s body went rigid, her face instantly turning pale. The debt collectors had found her.
Maxine turned off her phone and stretched. Cleo walked over with a glass of water. “Looks like everyone online did a total 180.”
Maxine hummed in agreement. “Mona should finally behave herself now.”
Back when she suggested posting the IOUS online, a lot of the creditors weren’t on board. But Maxine managed to trade some useful tidbits like Mona’s current address to get those IOUS, out in the open.
Cleo took a sip of water. “Gabriel’s trial is coming up in a few days, right? Are you ready?”
Maxine opened her files. She was pretty much set. the key evidence was already in her hands. As long as she could overturn Gabriel’s previous statement and prove he’d actually been in contact with Ivanna, the case could be reopened.
