Chapter 132
Staring at Ivanna’s face on the screen, Gabriel couldn’t help but clench his jaw in anger. If it weren’t for this woman, he wouldn’t be sitting her, in sich humiliating situation.
The judge glanced over at Gabriel’s lawyer, who was already sweating through his shirt. Before the trial, the Jenson family hadn’t bothered to mention how solid the evidence against them was. They just told him he’d get paid as long as he showed up.
The lawyer cleared his throat. “This surveillance footage only shows my client had contact with Ivanna. It doesn’t prove he assaulted here
Maxine replied coldly, “They went up to the fifth floor. Because of the way this bar is set up, only the first and second floors are public. Everything above that is private. And the entire fifth floor was booked by Mr. Jenson.”
She pulled out evidence from her bag. The same evidence Kathleen had tried to destroy back then. Luckily, Patrick had kept a backup.
Yesterday, while Maxine was sorting through files, Patrick, who’d been quiet the whole time, sent her a zip file. When she opened it, she found vanna’s original test report, which clearly stated that the DNA found in her body was a near–perfect match to Gabriel’s.
All of this was evidence Kathleen had tried to secretly erase. Patrick had sensed something was off. Kathleen was acting weird, rushing to get the records deleted right after the last hearing.
It was not like this kind of thing had never happened before, but usually it was long after a case was closed.
Patrick wanted to stop her, but Rayden warned him, “Kathleen is close with Sebastián. If you cross her, you might end up on Sebastian’s bad side.”
He was almost at retirement age and didn’t want to risk his future over this.
So he quietly backed up the files and turned a blind eye to what Kathleen was doing.
Maxine didn’t blame him. The fact that he was willing to bring out this evidence now was a huge help. Maybe it was only because he kept quiet back then
that the evidence survived at all.
Every time Maxine presented a new piece of evidence, Gabriel’s face got darker. Finally, he slammed his hand on the table and shouted, “Mason!”
“Defendant, watch your behavior!” the judge snapped, clearly annoyed.
But everyone could see Gabriel was finished. The evidence was mo
more
than enough to put him away.
Gabriel raped Ivanna, which led to her death. That alone was enough to get him ten years in prison.
The moment the judge announced the verdict, Maxine clenched her fists. She’d helped Ivanna win the case, and now she could finally give Jessica the closure she needed.
After the trial, Maxine walked out of the courthouse and spotted Urban waiting outside with Jessica.
Jessica’s eyes were red as she ran over and hugged Maxine’s waist, her voice trembling, “Maxine, did the person who hurt Mom get punished?”
While they were waiting at the door, Jessica had asked where Maxine was. Urban had looked at her seriously and said, “Maxine is fighting for your mom.”
Maxine bent down and pulled Jessica into a hug, then turned to Urban. “Thank you for looking after her today.”
Urban smiled. “No problem at all. Jessica’s a great kid. We get along really well, don’t we?”
Jessica grinned and nodded. “Urban is super nice to me!”
As the two were chatting, Sebastian walked over with Brian in tow. Maxine spotted them and immediately fixed her eyes on Brian. “What did you take from my study yesterday?”
