Maxine took a deep breath, her fists clenched in anger. Through gritted teeth, she demanded, “Are you saying they had a lawyer tell my dad something that drove him to such despair he took his own life?”
Lucas nodded. “That’s pretty much the gist of it, but we still haven’t been able to track down that lawyer from back then.”
Lucas sighed heavily. “After all these years, we might never find anything. Given how ruthless the Jenson family is, that lawyer was probably silenced for good.”

Lucas quickly waved his hand. “Just give it to him when the time comes. It was really no trouble at all for me. Besides, after all the heinous crimes the Jenson family has committed, it’s only right they face justice.”
The two of them had known each other since their freshman year of college. Back then, Maxine’s hardships were obvious to everyone, at her poorest, she survived on nothing but pure bread.
Lucas sighed softly. “You’ve had a really hard time these years. If you can let it go… don’t let the past weigh you down now.”
Maxine knew he meant well and gave him a faint smile. “I know. Thanks for looking out for me, Lucas.”
When Lucas mentioned it today, Maxine was instantly reminded of how her father had come home beaming with excitement, telling her he’d landed a major project. He promised that once it was finished and he got his bonus, he would treat her to a nice meal.
The Jenson family spun a perfect dream for Micah.
Then, just as quickly, they yanked him straight into the abyss, dragging his entire family down with him.
Maxine copied the files from Lucas’s computer and looked at him earnestly. “That lawyer from back then, Lucas, you have to help me find him,” she pleaded urgently.

“Don’t worry,” Lucas reassured her. “That lawyer probably isn’t well–connected, should be easy to track down.”
Before he could finish speaking, his phone rang in his pocket. Lucas hastily answered, “Hello? What’s the emergency?
“Wait there, I’m on my way now.”
After hanging up, he gave Maxine an apologetic smile. “Sorry, the ER just got a patient in critical condition, I have to rush back to perform emergency surgery. But I’ll keep looking into it for you.”
Maxine quickly said, “Then I’ll leave it to you, Lucas.”
Lucas gave her a quick nod, then hopped back on his bike and rode off.
Most of the documents Lucas gave her detailed the various legal disputes the Jenson family was involved in back then. Without exception, the parties either suspiciously met with accidents or mysteriously failed to appear in court when the hearings began.
It was like the Jenson family never lost a single case in court.
There was definitely something fishy going on/During a performance, an actor died in a stage accident. His younger brother sued the Jenson family’s company, but right before the court hearing, he mysteriously vanished. Despite an extensive police search, he disappeared without a trace.
