After saying that, the girl dejectedly poured herself a big glass of wine and gulped it down. “Damn, we’re worlds apart now.”
The director looked at her in disbelief. “Wait, you actually don’t know Sebastian?”
“What?” The girl nearly choked on her drink, coughing for a moment before finally swallowing. “Sebastian Mason?”
The others were equally shocked. As one of the veteran staff here, the director straightened up proudly and said, “You’ve all been calling him Sebastian this whole time, yet none of you knew his real name is Sebastian Mason?”
The others couldn’t help but exclaim, “Hey, none of you ever mentioned that!”
Maxine never initiated conversations with Sebastian. Even the director would only address him as “Mr. Mason” when they met, but no one paid much attention, since they often jokingly called each other “boss” in daily banter. No one would’ve thought Sebastian was actually the real deal.
Everyone at the table knew of Sebastian. Rumor had it he was extremely low–key, with hardly any photos of him online. But since the Noxen Group was their headquarters‘ arch–rival, everyone here had at least heard a thing or two about him.
In fact, even quite a few people at this table had applied to the Noxen Group before.
For a moment, the whole table was awash with mixed emotions.
Maxine was no exception.
The girl beside Maxine set her glass down dejectedly. “Damn, I wish I’d met you sooner! Maybe then I could’ve begged Sebastian to pull some strings for
me.”
No one stopped her from saying something so “outrageous“, because it perfectly voiced what everyone was secretly thinking.
The CEO of the Noxen Group personally delivered food to them. Honestly, if they told anyone, no one would ever believe it.
Maxine affectionately patted her head, thinking, ‘Thank goodness she came here, we might never have met at the Noxen Group.‘
Just as everyone was getting a bit sentimental, Marlon Carline, suddenly sprang up from his seat. Squinting at Sebastian, who was still standing by the car, he slurred, “Th–the CEO of the Noxen Group isn’t some middle–aged geezer? Man, this scoop could make me a fortune!”
His booming voice drew furtive glances from everyone else in the hall. Embarrassed, his colleague yanked him down and hissed, “You’re a lawyer, not some tabloid reporter!”
Truth be told, Sebastian was indeed middle–aged by most standards.
One guy had passed out on the table, and the others were also pretty drunk. The director helped the drunk guy up with a cheerful grin and said, “Alright, we’re off first. Everyone get home safe, and message the group when you arrive.”
As the group began to disperse, Sebastian noticed them getting up and made his way over.
Amid the playful teasing from the crowd, Sebastian reached out and took the bag from Maxine. He asked softly, “Have you been drinking?”
Maxine’s cheeks were slightly flushed. “Just a little,” she murmured.
Sebastian looked at her, then, gathering his courage, gently took Maxine’s hand. Instantly, muffled but excited cheers erupted from their colleagues by
the restaurant entrance.
But he couldn’t care less now. Maxine didn’t resist his touch at all. ‘She must be drunk,’ he thought, his heart racing.
‘Just let me be greedy this once,‘ Sebastian thought, allowing himself this small indulgence.
Chapter 204
Sebastian thought to himself, ‘You have no idea how long I’ve waited for this day, I’ve dreamed of this moment for a
“Let’s go home,” Sebastian murmured.
Maxine nodded obediently and let Sebastian gently guide her into the car, her moverments slightly unsteady. Sebastian gave a polita od tebitele colleagues gathered at the restaurant entrance before getting into the driver’s seat.
