“Sit down!” A nearby prison guard barked at her when he saw the commotion.
Kathleen was fuming with rage, still hurling insults at her. No one knew what kind of life’s professional lawyer she once was.

‘Even if Sebastian came right now, he probably wouldn’t even recognize her, Maxine thought mockingly.
Seeing Kathleen was still agitated, the guard strode over, gripped her shoulders, and forced her back into the chair “Keep this up and we’ll revoke your visitation rights,” he warned.
At those words, Kathleen immediately fell silent.
Maxine studied her, thinking, ‘She must still be waiting for someone from the Jenson family to come for her, or hoping Sebastian might one day soften up
and visit her.’
Kathleen brushed a stray lock of hair behind her ear, her voice guarded. “Alright, what’s this visit really about?”
Kathleen’s eyes flickered as she studied Maxine, then let out a sly, mocking sound. “Let me guess, after the incident, you vanished for ages. Sebastian thought you were dead, so he threw me in jail to avenge you. But now, after all this time, you’re back. I’m betting it has something to do with your father’s situation, right?”
Maxine’s expression darkened instantly. She leaned forward abruptly, visibly agitated, and demanded, “What exactly do you know?”
Kathleen let out a cold laugh, knowing she’d guessed right. “It’s all because of you that I couldn’t become Mrs. Mason. Because of you, Sebastian and Brian, who used to obey my every command, turned against me. Sebastian even had the Noxen Group’s lawyers personally put me behind bars.”
She locked her burning gaze on Maxine through the glass partition. “Do you really think I’d be kind enough to tell you anything?”
Maxine studied Kathleen’s frenzied expression and suddenly dropped the bombshell. “Did you know Gabriel is about to be released from prison?”
Kathleen froze, stunned. “What?” she gasped in disbelief.
She thought, ‘Gabriel has received a much longer sentence than I did. How could he possibly be getting out already?”
Maxine looked at her calmly and said, “The Jenson family has hired new lawyers to appeal his case. The retrial is next month. If we don’t act now, the truth will be buried forever.”
She paused, then added in a lower voice, “If you know anything, you’d better tell me. You know exactly what kind of man Gabriel is, once he’s out, you won’t be safe.”
Kathleen understood what Maxine meant, a flicker of panic crossing her face. She drew a deep breath to steady herself. “Give me time to think it over. I’ll contact you when I’m ready,” she said.
With that, she rose from her chair unprompted. The guard immediately stepped forward and escorted her out.
Maxine returned to the hotel, where Cleo immediately hurried over. “How did it go? What did she say?” Cleo asked eagerly.
“She needs some time to think it over and said she’ll get in touch,” Maxine replied.
“Perfect!” Cleo beamed. “I bet she’ll come around.”
Though Cleo loathed Kathleen, she had to admit that she was no fool, otherwise, she wouldn’t have outmaneuvered Sebastian so effortlessly back then.
Given the choice between Maxine and Gabriel, Kathleen would pragmatically side with Maxine. She was fully aware that once Gabriel was released, he’d eliminate all loose ends by any means necessary, including Kathleen.
