Hearing this, Sebastian said, “If you get too busy, just let me know. The Noxen Group’s legal team can also help.”
Maxine nodded. “Got it.”
Facing the Jenson family, she knew she couldn’t afford to be as careless as before. This time, she had to leverage Sebastian’s power to bring them all
down.
When filing the lawsuit, Maxine submitted all the evidence and made a duplicate copy for herself. Seizing the opportunity during her visit to Brian, the hid it in the Mason residence as a precaution against any underhanded schemes by the Jenson family.
The Jenson family must have figured it out. They tried negotiating with Sebastian again, but when that failed, they sent someone straight to her doorstep.
With Cleo away at work, Maxine was alone in the room when a stranger knocked. Instantly alert, she called out, “Who are you?”
The man smiled and said, ‘Hello, Ms. Hudson. I am an attorney retained by Mr. Hamlin Jenson. I’d like to discuss a potential collaboration with you, if you have a moment.‘
Maxine recognized the name. She had come across it while investigating the Jenson family. Hamlin was Gabriel’s father.
The man was dressed in a sleek suit and carried a black briefcase, every inch the picture of respectability. But Maxine knew better than to trust appearances. She said coldly, “I don’t know you, and I have nothing to say to the Jenson family. Tell them this, unless they can bring my father back to life, they can forget about any deal.”
The lawyer’s expression darkened briefly, but he quickly composed himself. “Ms. Hudson, there’s no need for this,” he said, “We’ve come with utmost sincerity this time. Please, grant me the opportunity for a face–to–face discussion.”
Maxine didn’t want to waste time arguing with him. She walked straight to the landline phone and called the front desk. Soon after, two security guards arrived. Following a brief commotion at the door, silence returned.
But Maxine knew she couldn’t let her guard down. This lawyer was just the opening act, more formidable opponents would surely follow.
Following a letter from Kathleen in prison, Maxine returned to her old apartment, determined to scour the place for any new evidence she might have
missed.
Meanwhile, at the Mason residence, Brian tossed his pen aside and frowned at the butler pouring his water. “Where’s Dad?”
The butler replied, “Mr. Mason is working late at the office. With year–end approaching, he’s quite busy. He’ll probably return in a few days.”
Brian leaned back in his chair. “I wanna see Mom,” he insisted.
The butler hesitated. “Well… Ms. Hudson never told us her exact address. How should we find her?”
Previously, when Brian went to see her, he was taken, there by the driver, so the butler didn’t know exactly where Maxine was staying.
Brian snorted, “Dad knows. Just call him and tell him to send someone to take me there.”
Unable to resist Brian’s insistence, the butler had no choice but to call Sebastian.
“If he wants to go, let him. I’ll have the bodyguard take him over shortly,” Sebastian said brusquely, his voice barely audible over the conference call chatter before he hung up abruptly.
Brian sat in the back seat, wiggling his legs excitedly. “I’m gonna see Mom soon! Just like my classmates, I want Mom to help me with my homework!”

The bodyguard took him downstairs to the hotel, but Brian suddenly piped up, “There’s a gift shop next door. Go get Mom a little gift
The bodyguard sighed, “But I have to stay with you, Mr. Mason.”
Brian turned his head away petulantly. “I’m tired. You go. I’ll just wait here for you.”
The bodyguard had no choice. Seeing the hotel lobby bustling with staff, he figured it was safe enough, Reluctantly, he stood up and left temporarily.
