Chapter 211
Only after confirming he had left did Brian glance around cautiously before heading to the elevator.
Brian knew exactly where Maxine was stayin
He planned to sneak upstairs and give her a big surprise.
Brian pressed the button for the fourteenth floor. The elevator ascended smoothly to where the long–term residents stayed. The entire level was eerily quiet. Plush carpeting covered the floor, completely muffling every footstep.
Brian thought excitedly, ‘Just around that corner, and I’ll
see Mom!‘
Brian quickened his pace, excitement bubbling up as he neared the corner, but then voices sounded behind him. “Are you sure Maxine is staying here?” someone asked.
At the sound of his mother’s name, Brian instinctively glanced over his shoulder, only to see two thuggish–looking men striding aggressively toward him.
Recalling the dangers Maxine had faced before, he slowed his steps to eavesdrop on their conversation.
“Cut the crap,” the other man snapped. “The intel’s solid, you just don’t have the guts to do it. If the boss finds out, you’re dead meat.”
At the mere mention of the boss, the man hunched his shoulders and muttered, “I didn’t say anything, okay? Let’s just hurry before someone notices us.”
The man snorted and cursed, “You fucking coward, move your ass! The bosses already gave the go–ahead. Just kick the damn door in and grab her, cleanup crew will handle the rest.”
Brian’s heart lurched as he stared at the two men, panic rising in his chest. ‘I can’t let them take Mom!‘ he thought.
Yet even before the thought fully formed, his body was already moving on pure instinct.
Just as the two men were about to knock on Maxine’s door, Brian darted in front of them, arms spread wide to block their path.
The man frowned impatiently and snapped, “Whose brat are you? Get the hell out of here! What the hell are you making trouble for?”
Brian looked him straight in the eye and said calmly, “My name is Brian Mason.”
“Beat it, kid!” the man snapped impatiently. “Who the hell are you? Get out of my damn way!”
As he spoke, he reached out to shove Brian aside, when the silent man behind him suddenly grabbed his arm and said, “Hold up, does that name ring a
bell?”
Brian lifted his chin defiantly and stared at them. “I’m Sebastian Mason’s son. The woman you’re after is my mother.”
The two men exchanged glances, suspicion flashing in their eyes. “This is way too fucking convenient,” one of them muttered, “We come for Maxine, and suddenly her kid shows up? What if this is some kind of setup?”
The man in the back lowered his voice, “Nah, that’s not likely. He’s just a kid, who’d risk their own child like that? I think he’s telling the truth…”
Before he could finish, Brian landed a solid kick on his shin. “Come and get me if you dare!” Brian shouted.
With that shout, Brian spun
around and bolted downstairs, not daring to look back.
Brian put all his strength into the kick, landing it right on the man’s shinbone. The man immediately dropped to his knees, clutching his leg and howling in pain. Before he could recover, his companion had already charged after Brian.
“Wait for me!” the man hissed through gritted teeth, limping after him. “When Leatch that little bastard, I’ll skin him alive!”
Maxine’s fingers froze over the keyboard as she sat working at the table. ‘Was that Brian’s voice?‘ she wondered.

Chapter 211
Maxine stood up just in time to see two men chasing a small figure down the hallway. Recognizing that familiar silhouette, her heart skipped a beat. Without thinking, she took off after them.
Still in her slippers, Maxine stumbled forward, nearly tripping over herself in her haste. Seeing them already disappearing down the stairs, she gritted her teeth and kicked off her slippers.
