Upon hearing the sound, Maxine instantly ducked down, alert and on guard.
The man inside chugged a mouthful of beer and muttered, “That little brat’s got way too many tricks up his sleeve. We’d better go easy on the drinks, or he might just slip away on us again in the middle of the night.”
The other guy took a swig from his glass and grumbled, “What the hell is that old man thinking? Why y does he insist we just keep the kid locked in the room? Wouldn’t it be way easier if we just tied him up?”
The other man scoffed, “This brat is Sebastian’s son, ever heard of him? CEO of the Noxen Group. The guy’s loaded as hell.
They all knew Hamlin was actually intimidated by the Masons. He didn’t dare lay a hand on the kid, so he took it out on the others instead
“Once we get the money,” the man switched his glass to the other hand and made a throat–slitting gesture. “Call Don over, we’re gonna finish that old bastard off!”
This whole job had been a total rip–off for them, not a single cent from Hamlin so far, and now they were locked up in this damn villa.
The other guy grunted in response and pulled out his phone, about to watch some videos, but the man with the beer smacked it right out of his hand. “Are you out of your damn mind?”
The guy whose phone was slapped away was clearly caught off guard. He froze for a moment, then barked angrily, “Can’t even get out of here, and now you won’t let me watch some damn videos?”
The older man grabbed him by the collar and growled through gritted teeth, “Have you lost your fucking mind? Didn’t the boss warn us? No internet here, the cops could track us! At least we’re being fed and housed decently now. You wanna end up in prison getting your ass kicked every day?”
The young man gave a bitter, self–mocking laugh and threw his phone to the floor. “What’s the damn difference between this and being in jail anyway?” he grumbled.
Still hearing the two men arguing inside, Maxine cautiously peered into the adjacent room. With the lights off and the curtains drawn, she could barely make out anything inside.
Maxine didn’t dare make any sudden moves. She could only try to straighten up and reach for the window, only to find it securely padlocked from the
outside.
It seemed her movements had caught the attention of someone inside. There was a gentle tap on the window, and the curtain was cautiously pulled
back.
‘Through the window, Maxine saw Brian standing by the window, craning his neck and cautiously peering outside.
Maxine sprang to her feet, excitement written all over her face. When Brian spotted her through the window, his eyes lit up and he instinctively stepped forward. Maxine quickly pressed a finger to her lips, signaling him to stay quiet, then pointed urgently toward the adjoining room.
Brian nodded, then carefully reached out and drew the curtains shut again.
The two men in the next room had finished arguing. The younger one slumped onto the ground, looking defeated. He grumbled, “If you get a chance, give them another call. There’s been no goddamn response. We’re screwed if this drags on.”
He punched the wall angrily, “Those rich and powerful bastards are just fighting their own battles. If we get caught in the crossfire, we’re nothing but fucking cannon fodder. Damn it, we never should’ve taken this goddamn job in the first place.”
The other man scoffed, “You’ve got some nerve! Who was drooling over the payout when we got this gig? And now you’re bi job?”

They sat in the room smoking, thinking about everything they’d dug up these past few days on Sebastian. The revelations made them uncont ever got caught, they’d be rotting behind bars for the rest of their lives.
