Chapter 51
Brian stormed into the room, looking around as if searching for something.
“Where’s that little brat?” Brian’s expression was fierce. “You’re divorcing Dad because of that little brat!”
Brian added, “And Kathleen is a mistress–that’s just something you made up! She’s way too nice to ever do that!”

Sebastian frowned slightly, clearly about to say something, but Kathleen suddenly jumped in. “Brian, thank you for speaking up for me.”
Kathleen’s eyes looked a little red, and she turned to Maxine with a face full of pain. “Maxine, I know you were just upset when you said all that. Brian’s here too–can we not say things we’ll regret? Let’s talk it out, okay?”
Looking at the three of them–two adults and a child–Maxine just felt it was ridiculous, almost laughable.
So this was the family she had spent ten years working so hard to keep together.
In the end, even her own son was siding with another woman.
Maxine couldn’t understand it at all. ‘Did I owe the Mason family something in a past life?‘
Maxine replied, “Kathleen, the only people in this room who really know what’s going on are you and me. But since you’re always playing nicely in front of people and doing something else behind their backs, there’s really no way to have a real conversation with you.
“So honestly, I don’t want to waste another second arguing with any of you. Get out. If you don’t leave now, I’m calling the cops.”
As soon as she finished, Maxine pulled out her phone, dialed three numbers, and hovered her finger over the call button.
Maxine continued, “Sebastian–especially you–CEO of the Noxen Group. A scandal like this? It’s gonna look real bad for you. You sure you want to keep pushing me?”
Sebastian’s eyes narrowed slightly. A second ago, he still looked uncertain, but now there was clear disappointment in his
gaze.
“Maxine, what happened to you?” Sebastian spoke up.
Maxine answered right away, “Yeah, I changed. So go ahead and sign the divorce papers already. Stop wasting my time, okay?”
Brian was stunned by how cold Maxine sounded. All this time, he’d thought she was just trying to get attention by bringing up divorce.
But even Brian, slow as he was, could see now–his mom really didn’t want him or his dad anymore.
Brian clenched his jaw and glared at Maxine. “You’re a terrible mom…”
Maxine’s eyes stayed calm. “Sure. Kathleen will be a great mom to you.”
When Maxine looked at the hatred in Brian’s eyes, a dark thought suddenly flashed through her mind.
Maxine really wanted to see what would happen after Kathleen married Sebastian. How would she treat Brian?
And then, what would Brian think of all this?
Of course, it was just a passing thought.

Chapter 51
Once the divorce was done, Maxine would still take care of her responsibilities as a mother. She wouldn’t let Brian get hurt and would support him financially as best as she could.
But anything beyond that–Maxine didn’t want to care anymore. Whatever bond she had with Brian as his mother had already worn thin.
Brian growled through gritted teeth, “So you still want Dad’s money… is that to raise that little bastard?”
Maxine’s eyes turned sharp in an instant. She said seriously, “Brian, this is your first and last warning.
“That girl is not a bastard, and you are never to call anyone that again. Say it one more time and I’ll make sure you your lesson. Got it?”
Brian looked furious, completely unwilling to back down.
Brian opened his mouth to say more, but Sebastian stopped him with a low, firm voice. “Brian, enough.”
Brian’s face flushed with anger as he kept staring at Maxine.
And Sebastian didn’t say another word to her–he just took Brian’s hand and turned to leave.

Kathleen narrowed her eyes slightly. “That’s it? Judging by Sebastian’s reaction… does he really not want to divorce Maxine?‘
The thought lingered as Kathleen turned her head and gave Maxine a long, unreadable look.
But Maxine had already looked away. Then Kathleen slowly curled her fingers into a tight fist.
After Sebastian and Brian walked out, Kathleen stared straight at Maxine. “Maxine, are you really set on divorcing Sebastian?”
