Chapter 7
Fortunately, I didn’t die.

Kate hadn’t closed the front door completely. A neighbor happened to hear Kate’s maniacal laughter from the doorway and rescued me.
I spent several days recovering in the hospital before being discharged.
Kate was confined to the prison hospital.
went to visit her.
The moment she saw me, she bared her teeth and cursed me viciously: “I was so close to succeeding! Rose, why does heaven favor you so much? Why didn’t you die instead? You’re the one who deserves to die! You should be the one with organ failure!”
Listening to her complaints, I found her utterly pathetic.
I looked at her and said word by word: “Kate, you brought this upon yourself. You were too greedy, so the system controlled you. You destroyed yourself!”
Upon hearing the word “system,” Kate’s eyes lit up as if she
had grasped a lifeline. But realizing these words came from my mouth, she froze instantly.

“You know about the system?”

“Of course I know. I’ve known from the very beginning after my rebirth!”
Kate thought having the system would let her control me, but she didn’t realize she was just a pawn controlled by the system herself.
I only found out by accident after dying in my previous life.
Kate’s weight exchange system had a rule–the 100–pound law.
Within a month, as long as Kate lost weight down to 100 pounds, she could absorb the good fortune of the bound person -me–and gain everything I had, like my job, my man, and so
- on.
Once her weight dropped below 100 pounds, she would be forced to absorb everyone’s misfortune, leading to endless bad luck.
That’s why she used Riley to make me lose weight down to 100 pounds.
But what the system didn’t tell her was that there was a loophole.
For every pound I gained, Kate would lose ten times that amount (though the system required her weight not to drop

below 100 pounds).

In this life, I exploited this loophole perfectly, causing Kate to plummet to 45 pounds.
Watching her increasingly desperate expression, I continued: “I didn’t go to weight loss camp to lose weight this time–I went to gain weight. You became smug after losing weight in the first week. But you didn’t know that was just a trap I set to bind you and Riley together. Kate, you thought you were so clever, that you could manipulate me at will; but you didn’t realize you were being played by a machine, leaving you with only days to live! Don’t you think you’re pitiful!”
With every sentence I spoke, Kate’s face grew paler.
But she still mumbled: “Impossible! You couldn’t possibly know! It only bound me! I’m the chosen one!”
I realized she was beyond saving.
I decided to deliver the final, fatal blow.
I said: “The moment you were pulled into the loophole by
me, you had already failed! From that moment on, the system automatically disconnected from you. As for the system you kept obsessing over afterward, it was all your dying delusion!”
Hearing this, Kate’s last hope crumbled.

She laughed like a madwoman, but her eyes remained motionless.
I stopped paying attention to her and walked straight out.
A week later, news came from the prison.
Kate was dead.
She died of organ failure.

They said before her last breath, she kept repeating one phrase: “System, save me.”
Riley was blacklisted from the industry and could only slink back to his rural hometown to farm.
I let out a long sigh.
Those parasites were finally gone. And I had successfully restarted my life!
The End.
