I tugged at the corners of my mouth, sighed, and dragged Liam back to campus. Before leaving, I gave my final statement. “Go back! Let’s spare each other some dignity! It’s really rude to continue making a fuss.”
After that day, they never came to see me again.
Three months later, Bakersville had its first snowfall since the start of winter. The snow covered the campus like a thick blanket.
Liam asked my roommate to bring me breakfast. I was admiring the snow through the window when I accidentally spilled milk on the newspaper while I was drinking it. I then found out that a murder had taken place nearby not long ago.
Two men partnered up to kill a young woman and eventually committed suicide by lying on the railway tracks.
The newspaper censored the photo, but I saw the familiar handkerchief and grass crown in the corner.
I sighed inwardly, finding the spilled milk a pity. Had I known earlier, I would not have drunk it. Now, it had spilled onto a photo of terrible people.
Soon, the snow started to fall heavily, and Liam shouted for me from downstairs.
I ran over while pretending to be furious. “Why did you call me down in such heavy snowfall?”
The next second, Liam hugged me in his arms. “I called you down to go on a stroll till our hair is as white as the snow!”
Traised my head, revealing my blushing cheeks. I saw the glow in Liam’s eyes and the falling snowflakes around us.
