They looked at me, and I was so embarrassed that I just wanted to disappear on the spot. Seeing that I was not moving at all, they all started discussing.
Lennon’s gaze at me grew increasingly fierce. “Do you know what the villagers are saying about Jenn because you left? They said you left in anger because Jenn stole your man! Jenn threw herself into the stream because of this and almost drowned!
“You’re going back to explain to everyone today. Otherwise, I won’t let you board this train no matter what.”
Seeing his exasperation, I gave a self–mocking smile. I thought he came after me because he could not bear to part with me, but it turned out that he was here for Jenn.
“What about you? Do you also want me to go back and apologize to Jenn?” I shook off Lennon’s hand and looked straight at Quentin. His face was sweating, and his lips moved for a while before he managed to squeeze out a few words. “No… But Jenn—”
I interrupted him icily, “But your darling Jenn must have cried and complained to you when she was sad and upset! Are you dumb? It hasn’t rained for a whole year. The stream at the village entrance is so dry that even our neighbor Madam Wilson’s four–year–old grandson can go in to catch shrimp. Could Jenn have drowned in it?”
I thought I had made myself clear, but I did not expect them to still hold their ground and not let me go. I shook off Lennon’s hand and walked straight to the train, but a brutal force soon pushed me to the ground.
“Elise!”
Liam Leeman saw this and hurriedly helped me up. I turned back and looked at Lennon in disbelief. “Lennon!”
Lennon ignored the fury in my eyes and dragged me out while yelling at Quentin, “Why are you just watching? Help me! If she doesn’t go back and explain, Jenn won’t be able to face the others!”
Hearing that, Quentin hurried forward and grabbed my other hand to help
Lennon’s words hit my ears like hail, freezing me. For a moment, I even forgot to resist. It was not until I was dragged for some distance and Liam called the staff on site that I came to my senses.
Liam was a peer from the same town. We took the same train during the college entrance examination back then, and we even bought tickets for the same train today. What was more coincidental was that we were attending the same college.
Lennon and Quinton were always holding Jenn’s hands and taking good care of her like she was a treasure. They were now holding my hands and dragging me to the ground like garbage. The thought of this made my tears flow again.
Liam led a few classmates to help me up and shielded me from Lennon and Quinton.
“Are you going back with us or not? If you’re not, don’t call yourself my sister!” Lennon said.
I shouted fiercely, “No! You’re both stopping me from attending college for Jenn. Do you have any conscience? There’s no way that I’m going back. Since you like her, go back and take good care of her. Forget that I was ever your sister!”
