After saying that, I hurriedly boarded the train. There were staff members guarding the entrance. Even though Lennon and Quentin struggled, they still could not get on.
When the train started, I looked back at the two people on the platform. Lennon was pointing at me, threatening and cursing at me while Quentin’s eyes reddened for no reason.
With a rumble, the train finally started, and I finally let out a sigh of relief. My clothes were already soaked with sweat while my hand was still tightly gripping Liam’s arm. When I realized it, my face instantly reddened with shame.
The scenery outside the window kept receding. I saw Quentin running along with the train while yelling something. The train was so loud that I only heard bits and pieces. “Sorry… Please… come back…”
The thought of the way he dragged me just now gave me a rush of fear. I quickly rolled the curtain down. Seeing my dirtied face, Liam handed me a wet towel that had been wrung out. The moment he turned around, a warm feeling filled my heart.
We took the train for two days and two nights before reaching the destination. As soon as we arrived, I rushed to the college without a moment’s delay. Everything on campus was new, and I was eager to swim in the ocean of knowledge.
Occasionally, I still thought of Lennon and Quentin. It felt like a memory from a previous life–distant and insignificant.
Just when I thought I had finally broken free from the mire, Jenn’s letter came. Every word hinted at her upcoming marriage to Lennon. She even said that she did not hold a grudge against me at all. She allowed me to go home and witness their wedding.
She also said that the presence of her sister who was a college student would add more prestige to the wedding.
I sneered and folded the letter again and again before putting it under the shaky table leg to prop it up.
I had many classes, so I soon forgot about it until I saw Jenn standing at the entrance of my dormitory in a wedding dress with disheveled hair and a dirty face one day after class. I did not recognize her at first and thought it was a student cosplaying.
It was not until she grabbed me that I realized it was her.
“Elise! You vixen! What does Quentin dumping you have to do with me? Who are you to instigate your brother to ditch our wedding? I’m telling you, I’ll report this to your principal if you don’t hand your brother over today. I’ll see which college will want a student like you!”
She grabbed my face as she yelled. She tripped me, and I fell to the ground before I could dodge.
