‘Are you sure about that?”
I glared at him.
Sometimes, I couldn’t figure out how Daniel, with a face prettier than most women, ended up with a personality like this. I pushed his head away and said, “You
didn’t use to be like this.”
Something in his eyes softened. Daniel was from Hansburg. His S parents were always fighting, and never cared for him.
He was someone who grew up without love and had turned into a street punk–skipping class, getting into fights, racing dogs–doing everything except bullying
classmates.
Eventually, he was sent to live with his grandfather in Valoria. Nobody welcomed him there either.
That was until he became Sebastian’s student–until he met me. That’s when he started to change.
Daniel smirked, blowing a gum bubble at me. “Maybe this is the real me.‘
I gave a small scoff, but my expression was warm. “Daniel, thank you for saving me twice.”
During the earthquake, a slab of concrete crushed my chest–I had no pulse.
Daniel got there just in time. He dug me out with his bare hands and had the doctors use a defibrillator to bring me back to life.
Without him, I would’ve stayed buried in that dark, hopeless place my husband left me in.
After that, he took care of me, but I left without saying a single word to him and returned to Valoria.
Still, this wild, seemingly carefree man didn’t chase me down.
He waited and only came back after he learned that I’d divorced Sebastian.
I said, “I’m going back to my hometown. Are you coming with me?”
“Of course I am.”
Daniel, I told you that I’m not thinking about relationships right now. Moreover, I’m seven years older than you.”
He looked at me with burning sincerity in his eyes.
Tessa, I told you that I’ll never pressure you. If you’re willing to accept me, I’ll love you and take care of you forever. If you’ve given up on love, then I’ll just be your family.”
I looked at him through teary eyes. I gently ruffled his hair but didn’t answer.
After we returned to the country, we travelled to my hometown. It was a poor, remote town in the southern region.

Chapter 7
There, I opened a clinic that specialised in traditional medicine.
What I didn’t expect was for Sebastian to find me so soon.
I opened the door and found that he was completely drenched.
The second he saw me, his eyes lit up with a desperate, burning joy. “Tess… I finally found you!”
