“Oh, you’re so bad,” Aurora mocked, but her actions betrayed her words. Instead of avoiding Maverick, she welcomed his playful touch and leaned into him.
The stress from the office melted away, and for a moment, she let herself be free.
Yet as she held him close, an unsettling image flashed in her mind. She saw Scott grinning at her with a sinister smile.
“What’s wrong?” Realizing that something was off, Maverick paused, and his eyes were full of concern.
She shook her head, willing herself to ignore the memories of her past life and focusing instead on being present with him.
Soon enough, the room was left in complete disarray.
Still breathless, Aurora clung tightly to him, almost as if she wanted to fuse him into her very being.
She brushed her hair back, and her expression darkened. ‘Maverick, I’m not happy.”
“Alright, we’ve done what we can to blow off steam. Now, tell me, what’s going on?” Staring at her tenderly, Maverick ran his hand down her nose and said dotingly, “I’m here to help.”
Aurora’s face fell as she disentangled herself from his arms. She sat up and fixed her gaze on him before saying uneasily, “Today, I finally got proof that Naomi and Scott fabricated data in the project report. It’s an obvious setup. They’re trying to siphon funds from the Sage Group into Digi Science’s pockets. I confronted them, hoping to end the partnership, but my dad suddenly called off the meeting. It felt like he was protecting Naomi.”
Upon hearing this, Maverick immediately frowned, and his mood turned gloomy.

Harely pausing to wipe away the cold sweat on her forehead, she tightened her grip around her knees, and her eyes flashed with resolve.
She then made her way downstairs and noticed that Maverick was nowhere to be seen. Scratching her head, she lazily dragged her steps.
