Giving me another kiss on the check and smiled at Alana before leaving to probably find the triplets. After he was out of sight, I turned to Alana with my arms crossed over my chest and an eyebrow raised, silently telling her to explain herself.
“Okay, look. I’m sorry. I promise I had planned to tell you after the party. It was just that I was scared…” Scared, why? After seeing my confused stare, she continued taking a deep breath, “…all the friends I had only used me to get to my brothers. They used to act like we were best friends, and when I found out their intentions, I cut them off. And they started spreading crap like I’m jealous and stuff. I’m sorry, Lyla, I really didn’t mean to hurt you by not telling you.” She said, her cheeks. tinted red with embarrassment.
As much as I wanted to be upset with her, I couldn’t find it in me to be. Hell, I would’ve done the same thing if I had been on her spot. I would rather have one real friend than a dozen fake ones. But, it hurt
nonetheless that she thought I could be like her so–called douchebag friends. However, I got her point of view. I smiled at her and dramatically bowed.
“Your forgiven, your highness,” I sarcastically said.
She smiled and rolled her eyes.
“For the love of the goddess, don’t call me that. You’re my friend, screw the titles, plus I have a feeling you and I will be super close in the future.” She said as she playfully pushed me.
I smiled, chuckling.
Even though I couldn’t help but feel that her last few words had a
different meaning than what she meant, I still shrugged it off.
Lopping arms with one another, we walked around the hall, talking to our new classmates, teachers and even the Dean. A couple of boys had approached us for a dance, but we politely declined. Throughout our time at the party, I felt like I was being watched. I couldn’t shake the feeling away that, instead of a set of eyes, two watched my every move. But, whenever I turned to take a sweep of the room, I saw no one that stood out. My brothers and Jax were even busy talking to the Dean and twins in the front of the hall.
Where was I getting those stares from?
Shaking it off as one of the horny male wolves around us, I continued to have fun with Alana. We danced and had something to eat; time flew by, and the party was coming to an end. I saw my brothers and Jax coming towards me. I excused myself from the group of people me and Alana were talking to, and I walked towards them.
Walking to the entrance of the celebration hall, we all stopped.
“Guess this goodbye.” I said, my voice everywhere but my brothers and Jax.
cracking, as I looked
I felt arms engulf me, and the familiar scent of honey and musk entered my nostrils as I relaxed into Lars’s embrace. I felt him kiss the crown of my head, making me snifle.
“This is good for you, Lyla. Look at you, not even being here a day,
and you’re smiling and laughing with people and making friends.” Said
Lars.
I sniffed.
He was right.
Chapter 12
As much as I thought I would hate this place, it was actually turning out to be not so bad. I actually enjoyed my time with the other wolves at the party.
“Be good, Lyla, and if you ever think you need to come back or you’re homesick, you know we can never turn you down. I’m sorry we haven’t been as available to you as we should’ve been, but I promise that will change from now on.” Said Lars.
As if a dam broke, tears fell from my eyes. I snuggled into my brother. As he rubbed my back and hushed me when I calmed down, he pulled me back, kept both his hands on my shoulders, and smiled at me, giving me one more kiss on the head. He moved back for the triplets to hug me. Kaiden, Aiden and Fiden each crushed me in bear hugs, telling me how much they’ll miss my obnoxious ways back at bloodmoon, and they can’t wait till I am back. I laughed, gave each of them a kiss, and promised to call them as much as possible. After an emotional goodbye with my brothers, I turned to Jax and smiled at him. Walking towards him, he engulfed me in outstretched arms once I was close enough.
“Be good, sweetheart, and if you need anything, I mean anything you call me, okay, hmm?” Jax said.
