Chapter 9
That day he sent Willette to the hospital, and before leaving he asked at few brothers to scare Joey and dampen her spirit.
He thought they just fed her some chili water, but he didn’t expect these people to be so cruel and torture her to death!
Willette was horrified by this sudden turn of events.
She rushed to the control panel with a pale face, pressed buttons in a panic, and screamed in a state of near collapse: “Turn it off, turn it off quickly!”
Unexpectedly, she accidentally touched the volume button, and the sound became even louder. Joey’s cry for mercy and the bullies‘ dirty words intertwined into a piercing sound wave, instantly overturning the entire venue.
The engagement party was forced to be called off.
Humphrey dismissed all the guests, leaving only Willette and the men who assaulted Joey.
Willette was still in shock. She shuddered violently when Humphrey looked at her. She said with red eyes:
“I didn’t mean to frame Joey. I just heard that you were very protective of her at school, and I was afraid that you would turn your fake love into real love…”

Humphrey couldn’t hear what these people were saying at all. He pressed the man against the wall and punched him again and again as if to vent his anger.
The man was beaten to death.
Seeing Humphrey going so crazy, the others didn’t dare to say a word.
In the past they thought Humphrey was just taking revenge on Joey.

When she woke up again, those people were gone, and only her parents were left by her side.
She heard her parents pleading:
“Mr. Rhodes, do you really want to cancel your engagement with Willette for Joey?”
“Joey is not innocent. She deliberately kidnapped Willette because she was jealous of him. If you hadn’t given him the money so readily, Willette might have been killed by her!”
“Joey has been bullying Willette for so many years, shouldn’t he suffer a little?”
Upon hearing this, Willette quickly got up, dragged her weak steps to Humphrey, and grabbed his sleeve tightly.

Humphrey lowered his eyes and fell on Willette’s tear–soaked face, without a trace of warmth.
Willette was frightened by his cold eyes.
In all the years she had known Humphrey, she had never seen him like this.
What kind of drug did Joey give him?
Thinking of this, Willette suddenly grabbed the glass on the table and smashed it to the ground.
With a “snap“, the glass broke into pieces.
Willette picked up a piece of glass and put it against her wrist, and said in a trembling voice: “Alin, don’t force me. If you cancel the
engagement for Joey, I will die in front of you!”
The glass was very sharp and blood oozed from Willette’s wrist.
Humphrey finally responded.
He walked up to Willette, snatched the sharp glass away, then took a handkerchief from his pocket and gently wrapped it around her wrist.
A series of actions ignited a light in Willette’s dim eyes.
She knew that Humphrey would not really be so heartless.
He still loves her!
However, the next second.
The man bent down and whispered in her ear:
“You can’t die yet.”
“Who will atone for Joey’s sins if he dies?”
As soon as he finished speaking, the door behind him was slammed
open.
The two men were pushed in by brute force and fell to the ground at Willette’s feet with a thump.
