He was about to leave when Sarah rushed in.
“Mark, where were you all night? Jason and I
waited for you!”
<
She reached for his arm, but he flung her
away.
Sarah stared, stunned. She’d never seen him
so angry.
Mark’s face was twisted with rage and
exhaustion. He grabbed her hand tightly.
“What did you and Amy talk about at Ethan’s
funeral?”
Terrified, Sarah forced out a few tears.
“Mark, you’re hurting me.”
Normally, her tears would have softened him.
<
“Mark, did Amy say something to you? I was
just trying to comfort her. Did she
misunderstand?” She sighed dramatically.
“It’s understandable that she’d be…
unstable… after losing her son. But surely you
don’t believe anything she said?”
“Amy’s gone! She’s been missing since that
day!”
A flash of triumph crossed Sarah’s face
before she could mask it. Gone? Drowned?
That was wonderful! If I was dead, Jason
wouldn’t have a godmother, and Mark could
finally marry her.
く
Mark saw the flicker of a smile on her lips
and his rage exploded. He dragged her to the
edge of the muddy pond.
“Mark, what are you doing?!”
He smiled, a chilling, unfamiliar smile.
“You’re the one who told me to throw Amy in
the pond. Now it’s your turn.”
Before she could react, he kicked her into the
thick mud.
She was instantly covered in muck.
<
“Mark, are you crazy?! Get me out of here!”
Mark stared down at her, his eyes cold.
“If you hadn’t lied about your oxygen tank, I
wouldn’t have let Ethan drown. I wouldn’t
have broken Amy’s heart.”
“This is all your fault. You’ll pay for my son’s
life.”
Terror seized Sarah. He knew. He wasn’t
going to let her get away with this.
“Mork I’m peral Pleses forgive mel I’m
<
“Mark, I’m sorry! Please forgive me! I’m
Jason’s mother! Please, help me!”
“You don’t deserve to be a mother!” He
gestured to his assistant, who immediately
ordered the pond to be refilled.
