Whenever I think about the twenty years of abuse my mother put me through, my heart races with fear. But she never stopped because of my terror–instead, she’d look at with even more disgust. I was at my breaking point and forced myself to ask her: “Mom, why do you hate me so much? If you don’t want to see me, I can leave this house. Why do you have to teh me like this?
I really wanted to get away from her, even if it meant living in poverty or begging on the streets. But after hearing this, she flew into a rage and slapped me hard across the mouJ You my daughter, and I’ll torture you however I want! You think you can run off and harm other people? Not a chance!”
She glared at me with bloodshot eyes, looking like a demon. My hope was completely shattered. Mom became even more brutal in her abuse, beating me until I was covered in wounds. The neighbors looked at me with confusion. “Hailey, what exactly did you do to make your mother so angry?”
I didn’t dare speak, even though I hadn’t done anything wrong. Even my grandparents, who loved me most, had sided with Mom. No one was protecting me anymore. Now whatever I said would only earn me another beating.
Grandpa continued explaining with a smile, “Hailey has been rebellious since she was little. If we don’t discipline her strictly, she’ll probably cause big trouble later. Sorry for disturbing
everyone.”
After all, this was a family matter. The neighbors couldn’t interfere much and gradually left. Once everyone was gone, the smile vanished from Grandpa’s face instantly.
