This time, the beating was particularly brutal. Mom wouldn’t let me see a doctor, and the wounds on my back became infected and crawling with maggots.
They found me disgusting, so they all went on vacation, leaving me alone at home.
But fortunately, I still had one last lifeline.
Dad’s mistress, Sandra Hill, secretly came to my house. ‘
The moment she saw me, tears of heartbreak streamed down her face.
“Hailey, I’m so sorry I came too late. If I hadn’t gotten involved with your father, your mother might not blame you or abuse you so cruelly!”
Sandra blamed herself, repeatedly slapping her own face.
But I knew she was innocent too.
She’d been deceived by my dad into having children when she was still in high school, completely unaware that he was already married with kids.
Besides, Sandra was the one who treated my wounds after every beating. Without her, I would have died from infection long ago.

However, she was still Dad’s mistress after all–she couldn’t live in our house, much less protect me around the clock.
But even so, she saved me time and time again.
Through all these Christmases, I’d thought about ending my life more than once. It was Sandra who kept talking me out of it, telling me to wait a little longer.
She said that as I grew older and Mom grew older too, I’d eventually be able to leave home and live my own life.
Sandra was my last hope. Without her, I truly didn’t want to live
anymore.
Remembering Mom’s demon–like whisper, I trembled as I pleaded: “Sandra, promise me you’ll never talk to my mother.”
Sandra smiled helplessly: “I’m your father’s mistress, and my two daughters are in your mother’s hands. How would I dare appear in front of her?”
With tears in my eyes, I begged her: “Swear to me that you’ll never speak to my mother!”
Sandra looked curious: “What’s wrong? What exactly did she say that has you so terrified?”
I wanted to know what Mom had said too. I wanted to know

“I don’t know. Sandra, promise me that no matter what, you won’t listen to my mother speak!”
Sandra agreed and even made a solemn oath.
I breathed a sigh of relief, naively believing that as long as she didn’t listen to Mom’s whispers, I’d still have hope to keep going until Mom grew old and I could leave.
Sandra even said she wanted to take me to her house for a while to
take care of me. After all, my family was away on vacation–no one would know.
I was excited, thinking I could temporarily escape this hellish place.
But I never expected that in just half an hour, when I finished packing and walked out of my bedroom, I wouldn’t see Sandra–I’d
see Mom.
I panicked and lost my balance, falling to the ground. She kicked me in the stomach.
My injured back slammed hard against the floor, and the pain nearly made me pass out.
But Mom just smiled cruelly: “You want to run?”

I was terrified beyond measure, frantically turning to Sandra for help.
But she wouldn’t even look at me.
Mom became even more insane. She grabbed a stick and beat me frantically.
I felt endless despair.
In that moment, I wished I could just die and be done with it.
I desperately questioned Mom: “Am I even your child? What did I do wrong that you abuse me like this? Would you be happy if I died?”
She grinned with a particularly chilling smile: “You want to die? Then go die!
“I beat you so hard, but you just won’t die. You little bitch, do you actually enjoy getting beaten?”
She beat me like a madwoman. I dragged my injured body across the floor, crawling with difficulty.
I crawled to Sandra’s feet, begging her to save me: “Sandra, please call the police. I’m going to be beaten to death!”
I knew she didn’t dare oppose Mom. I just hoped she could help me call the police.

But Sandra remained unmoved. She coldly shook me off: “It’s normal for a mother to discipline her daughter. There’s no need to call the police.”
Her words completely dragged me into the abyss. The little hope I’d desperately maintained vanished.
I stared at her in shock: “Did Mom say something to you?
“You promised me you wouldn’t listen to her speak! Sandra, you swore an oath!”
Sandra glared at me with disgust and said venomously: “What right does a little bitch like you have to tell me what to do? Your mother is just educating you. How dare you resist? You really deserve a beating!”
I was in complete despair.
I knew Mom must have whispered to her too. Otherwise, her attitude wouldn’t have changed so suddenly.
Dad and my two sisters came back as well. They sat on the sofa in silence, watching me get beaten.
Just when I thought I’d be beaten to death, Mom got tired and rubbed her waist, intimately asking my two sisters to massage her.

I was like a stray dog on the roadside–rotting and crawling with maggots, yet no one cared.
But why?
I didn’t even know what I’d done wrong!
I no longer had any hope of living. Late at night, I dragged my numb body to the edge of the balcony.
Just as I was about to jump, I suddenly heard faint sounds coming from Mom’s room.
My heart pounded. My instinets drove me to eavesdrop.
Even if I was going to die, I had to figure things out. I needed to know what words had made my loved ones abandon and abuse me one by one!
But when I crawled to the door and heard Mom’s whisper clearly, all the blood in my body froze.
So that’s how it was.
I knew now. I knew everything!
I knew why Mom abused me. I knew why my family members chose to abandon me after hearing those words!
