Chapter 6
My father was gravely ill–cancer had invaded his kidneys. Without an immediate kidney transplant, he wouldn’t survive much longer.
Sandra tearfully begged my mother to take him back to the hospital for treatment, but she was harshly refused.
This led to a fight between them. Sandra was young and strong, and quickly pushed my mother down the stairs. Mom hit her head and bled profusely.
My two younger sisters were terrified and crying, each supporting Mom on either side.
The older of my sisters tearfully begged Sandra to stop hitting, while the other stood protectively in front of Mom like a little beast defending its mother.
As the biological daughter, I stood aside like a stranger, just watching.
It took Mom a long while to regain her composure. When she saw me, her eyes immediately turned vicious. She told me to get out immediately.
“You must have brought bad luck and made your father sick. I’m going to beat you to death!”

She swayed as she struggled to get up and hit me.

I didn’t dodge, letting the broom strike my chest. The pain made me curl up immediately.
Sandra angrily stopped my mother, pushed my two sisters aside, and dragged Mom into the bedroom.
My two sisters didn’t dare follow, hugging each other and crying.
I boldly leaned against the door with my crutch to eavesdrop.
I heard Sandra demanding why my mother wouldn’t save my father.
Mom said nothing, only letting out a deep, smug laugh.
She had always acted like a madwoman–otherwise she wouldn’t beat and abuse me daily. But now her laughter was incredibly rational.
Sandra was enraged and slapped my mother hard.
“You don’t love him at all! You won’t even save his life, so how dare you claim to love him? If I had known what kind of person you were, I never would have let him come back to a bitch like you!”
Faced with Sandra’s furious shouting, my mother just laughed.

However, her laughter only made Sandra angrier. Soon the sound of struggling came from the bedroom.
“If he really dies, it’ll be your fault! I want you to die too!”
Sandra’s voice was thick with fear–she seemed to be just venting her
emotions.
She was truly terrified of my father dying, and truly loved him.
Compared to her, my mother seemed much more heartless. “He should have died long ago! That bastard!”
I had heard these words from my mother countless times.
But she and my father had always been loving–she even brought home and raised the two children he had with his mistress, I couldn’t
understand how she could suddenly hate him.
Sandra fought with my mother again. The sounds of fists and bodies colliding were chilling.
“You’re the one who should die. You don’t love him at all—you’re holding him back. I’m the only one in the world who truly loves
him!”
My mother’s angry voice rang out.
“Is your way of loving him removing your daughter’s organs to keep him young?”
