Michael immediately feigned distress,
“I’m sorry, Sarah, the dog bit me, my heart ached, and I accidentally kicked him. I’m so careless! Is he going to be okay?”
Sarah pursed her lips, forcing her gaze away from Buster.
“It’s fine as long as you’re okay. Where did he bite you?”
“Pets carry germs, it’s bad for the baby. I wanted to get rid of him anyway, you just
saved me the trouble.”
<
She then instructed the housekeeper to take
the dog to the vet.
Michael looked unsatisfied, his lips turning
down.
He quickly recovered his composure, tugging on Sarah’s sleeve.
“The dog’s okay, but if Gray finds out, he’ll
skin me alive. Even if I die, I can’t repay him!” Anyone who didn’t know the truth would think
I’d bullied him.
Sarah’s eyes softened, she softly comforted
him.
“If he dares, I’ll show him what hell is like.”
Michael paused, tentatively asking,
“Sarah, my parents want to see the baby. Will
you come with me to see them tomorrow?”
Sarah nodded.
“Of course. The baby will eventually be raised
by my parents–in–law.”
Michael’s chest heaved he reached for
Michael’s chest heaved, he reached for Sarah’s hand, whining,
“Sarah, why are you so distant? We-”
Sarah dodged his hand, her tone cold, “The guest room is ready, you should rest. The baby was fussy these past few days, and
you haven’t slept well.”
But Sarah couldn’t sleep.
She kept opening our chat log.
She found my last message from eight months ago, responding to her invitation with a simple “okay.” She fidgeted restlessly. I worried about Buster’s health, but my soul couldn’t stray too far from Sarah, so I just stared at Buster’s food and toys.
Then, Sarah came to my side.
My heart leaped, and I saw her kneel and
open a can of Buster’s favorite food.
Then she opened my chat.
“Grav. I’ve taken care of everything Come
ᄀ
“Gray, I’ve taken care of everything. Come
back. Buster misses you.”
Sarah’s rare show of softness. I didn’t reply
immediately.
I could never respond again.
The housekeeper opened the door.
Sarah saw his empty hands.
“Where’s the dog?”
John hesitated,
“Six ribs were broken, piercing his heart. He
died at the hospital… Ma’am, do you want to
cremate him?”
My heart ached.
When naming him, Sarah had softly said,
“Of course, he’s Buster. We are his mom and dad, the most important people in his small
world. We have to keep him safe!”
Buster, but he couldn’t be safe.
Sarah froze, her fingertips trembling.
After a while, she found her voice,
、
<
“Yes.”
“John, find me an identical dog. When Gray
comes home and doesn’t see Buster, he’ll
make a fuss.”
My heart spasmed.
She was rich enough to find a similar dog.
But our relationship was irreplaceable.
The next day, Sarah was distracted on her
way to Michael’s family home, barely reacting
to the baby’s cries.
She pursed her lips, texting the housekeeper,
“Haven’t you found one yet? Hurry up.
“”
When she looked up, she was stunned by
Michael’s house.
