His assistant, Lee, swallowed hard, trying to
deflect,
“Wow, Mr. Gray’s such a goofball, leaving
such a valuable thing lying around.”
It was a clumsy lie, but Sarah relaxed,
muttering,
“I knew it couldn’t be him.”
“”
Turning, she bit her lip, annoyed,
“Damn Gray! Throwing our wedding rings
around. Didn’t you say you’d never take it
off?”
I chuckled sadly.
At least I kept that promise.
Approaching the cabin, she hesitated, took a
deep breath, and opened the door.
“Gray, I’m here… to get you.”
Sarah’s pupils constricted.
く
The cabin was empty, just a simple bed and
table; no hiding places.
Most importantly, everything was untouched,
dusty, as if no one had lived there.
Without needing Lee to speak, Sarah coldly
snorted and told the dozen bodyguards
behind her,
“Search! Turn the whole island upside down,
if necessary, I want to find Gray!”
But she was doomed to be disappointed.
As the sun set, everyone was exhausted,
finding nothing.
Lee wiped his sweat and suggested,
“Ms. Johnson, it’s late, and the island’s
rough. Why don’t you find a hotel, and I’ll
oversee the search for Mr. Gray.”
Watching Sarah’s impatience, I felt a bitter
irony.
Now she’s frantic.
She ignored me for eight months, letting me
<
fend for myself, and now she feels no
remorse.
Sarah shook her head, dejectedly returning to
the cabin.
She picked up a bottle of water and some
instant noodles.
Her face fell.
“Lee, you dare lie to me?”
Lee trembled, speechless.
Sarah sneered,
“These noodles and water are expired. Gray
doesn’t live here, right?”
Lee stammered,
“… …”
Sarah chuckled,
“You’re quite fond of Gray, taking him off the
island. Tell me, where is he hiding?”
I was stunned, a wry smile playing on my lips.
When Sarah left, she specifically told Lee and
the others not to let me escape and to make
<
me suffer.
She didn’t consider that I, penniless and at
their mercy, had no chance of leaving.
As Lee struggled for an answer, a baby’s cry
echoed outside.
A helicopter’s whirring filled the air.
The door burst open.
Michael, holding the baby, rushed in.
The baby was red–faced from crying.
He coughed lightly, pleading with Sarah, “Sarah, even if you rejected me, the baby is
innocent. He hasn’t eaten all day, and he
keeps crying.”
Anyone who didn’t know the truth would think
he was a widowed, abandoned father.
I couldn’t believe Michael was so desperate,
using his own son.
The baby’s cries finally brought Sarah back to
her senses.
She took a deep breath,
“Give me the baby.”
A moment of false harmony filled the cabin.
Michael casually put his arm around Sarah’s shoulder and winked at Lee.
“Lee, Sarah needs to breastfeed, you shouldn’t be here.”
Lee understood immediately and nodded.
