Chapter 5
The four of them froze, staring at the documents on the table, speechless.
Lilian eyed me suspiciously, then stepped forward, picked up the certificate, and scrutinized it.
“Someone as pathetic as you, willing to divorce your meal ticket? This certificate is probably fake, isn’t it?”
Jeremy’s expression relaxed slightly, and he shot me a furious glare.
“Rosie, why are you still like this? Didn’t I tell you to stop using such cheap tricks? Do you need me to call the police and have you arrested before you’ll behave?”
He made a show of pulling out his phone, as if expecting me to panic and beg for mercy.
But I remained calm, even laughing.
Jeremy frowned, sensing something wasn’t right.
“What are you laughing at?”
“I’m laughing because you’ve even forgotten the divorce agreement you signed.
“When did I…”
Jeremy stopped abruptly, his face turning pale, as if he’d finally remembered the document I’d handed him three months ago.
To my surprise, he didn’t look relieved.

Instead, he seemed panicked, a flicker of disbelief in his eyes, murmuring, “No way… I never meant to divorce…”
Hearing this, Lilian realized we really had signed the agreement, and a hint of glee flashed in her eyes.
She pretended to be calm and said mockingly, “It’s good you know your place. Divorce sooner is better for everyone.
“But Jeremy didn’t even read that agreement. Who’s to say you didn’t play some tricks with the asset division?”
It suddenly hit me.
Jeremy’s panic wasn’t about the divorce, but his worry that I had touched his money.
To him, money would always be more important than me.
Realizing this, I just wanted to pack and leave.
But Lilian stepped in front of me, blocking my way.
“What is this? Suddenly feeling guilty and trying to escape?
“I suggest you be smart. Sign another agreement to voluntarily give up your assets and pay back everything you owe Jeremy from over the years, or you’ll regret it!”
I glanced at Jeremy, who remained silent, and I caught a complicated emotion in his eyes.
It seemed like a mix of reluctance and disappointment.
He probably thought I was someone who would resort to underhanded tactics.
But it was he who betrayed me, yet now he was turning the tables, demanding I leave with nothing.
That was utterly ridiculous!
Jeremy’s parents also reacted, picking up the divorce certificate and throwing it at me.
“Lilian is right! Either you give up everything, or we’ll take you to court for fraud!”
“That’s enough! All of you, shut up!”
Surprisingly, Jeremy spoke before I could, cutting them off.
His shout silenced the three, their aggression fading. Lilian awkwardly said, “Jeremy, we’re only trying to help you… What if she takes advantage of the loophole…”

“Rosie’s not like that!” Jeremy cut Lilian off, firm and forceful—so much so that even I was caught off guard.
But when he turned to me, his expression softened, eyes full of hurt. “I don’t care about the money, Rosie, but can you tell me why you had to divorce me?
“So what if I went with Lilian to her family’s place to prune grapevines instead of going with you to your parents“? That’s not the reason for us to end up like this, is it?
“I won’t pursue you for secretly signing the divorce agreement. We can go to the Courthouse right now and revoke the divorce. I’ll give whatever Compensation you want.”
