Chapter 8
He looked up in disbelief.
“How can you say that? Lilian and I are just close colleagues; nothing more happened!
“You know her family background isn’t good, and I didn’t want her to feel looked down upon. That’s why I went to the vineyard to help. I wanted her to integrate and overcome insecurity.”
I snorted.
She integrated quite well. Jeremy even drank tea with her family.
“Why don’t you just buy her more vineyard land then? Let her do what she’s good at, and she won’t feel so insecure.”
“How can I do that? She finally made it to the city to build a career; how can I just send her away just because you don’t like her?”
Jeremy rejected the idea without a second thought.
I hadn’t expected him to agree, so I just shrugged.
“Then we have nothing left to talk.”
His expression turned grim, and he slammed the table.
“Rosie, I thought education would make you more sensible and less petty, but you can’t even tolerate a colleague!
“I was blind to marry someone like you!”
I nodded.

“I was blind too; it took me seven years to see who you really are.
Jeremy stomped his foot, angry but knowing he had no real argument.
He said, “Remember what you said today. Don’t regret it!”
Then, he slammed the door and left.
A few days later, I finally understood what he meant by “Don’t regret it.”

Jeremy found out I’d blocked him and Lilian, so he had a coworker send me their recent photos.
They were even more intimate than the ones Lilian had posted–one showed them in bathrobes, cuddled up on a couch.
Jeremy had posted them on social media, publicly announcing his relationship with Lilian.
After sending the photos, the coworker even said with pity, “Your man ran off with someone else. What a sad ending for you.”
But when I saw the photos, I felt nothing.
I just thought it was a waste of time. I’d rather be watching the sunset over
the coast.
I didn’t reply. I put my phone away and continued my trip.
In just two months, I’d traveled through 15 cities–each one healing me in its own way.
I remembered how Jeremy used to say that only people with no ambition loved to wander around.

But he had no problem going to amusement parks with Lilian, riding roller coasters, saying she made him feel young again.
Looking back, the truth was simple–he just didn’t love me anymore. That’s why everything I did was wrong to him.
I checked the map for my next stop. It wasn’t far from the small town where my parents lived, so I decided to visit them.
But the moment I entered the door, I saw the person I didn’t want to see.
