Chapter 9
“Why is Jeremy here?” I thought to myself.
The moment he saw me, he shot to his feet, looking at me helplessly.
“Rosie, please stop being angry with me. Let’s go home.”
That’s when I realized his eyes were red and teary, and he was so choked up he could barely get the words out.
My parents seemed unaware of the situation, sat next to him, and comforted him. “All couples argue. No matter how big the issue, a good talk can always fix it.”
“Rosie, come here and comfort Jeremy.
Obviously, Jeremy didn’t tell them about the divorce.
I didn’t plan to bring it up because I didn’t want them to worry, but since he wouldn’t say it, I would.
“Mom, Dad, we got divorced two months ago.”

I said it calmly, like it was just another ordinary fact.
Jeremy flinched, like he didn’t expect me to be so direct in front of them.
My parents looked at Jeremy, clearly torn, then walked over and quietly asked me, “What happened between you two? Was it bad enough to end in divorce?”
“If you want the details, ask him.”
Jeremy clutched the hem of his shirt, lips pressed tight, like he didn’t

know where to start.
My mom had always been soft–hearted, treating Jeremy like family. Seeing him like this, she became anxious.
“Jeremy, just tell us. We will help talk some sense into Rosie.”
“That’s right, Jeremy,” my dad added. “Rosie is a reasonable person. Whatever it is, we can work through it as a family.”
Their warmth only made Jeremy cry harder.
Then suddenly, like he’d made up his mind, he dropped to his knees and broke down.
“It’s my fault. I cheated on Rosie. That’s why she divorced me.
“But I get it now, I really do. Rosie, I’m begging you, give me another chance. Let’s start over. I swear, I won’t mess up again.
My mom froze. It wasn’t what she expected. Her expression turned
serious.
My dad was furious. He pointed at Jeremy and snapped, “My family will never accept someone unfaithful like you! Rosie’s not taking you back!
“Get out! Don’t ever come here again!”
Jeremy panicked, begging and bowing down in tears. With his hands pressed together, he begged me, “Rosie, please forgive me! I already fired Lilian. She won’t come between us again!
“If I’d known she kept making things hard for you at work and even used
my account to approve your resignation, I never would’ve let her get away with it!
“Please, come back with me. I can’t live without you!”

Seeing him act so humbly, I just felt annoyed.
“I told you all of this before, didn’t I? But you
always took her side.
“Honestly, her tricks weren’t even clever. You’d have seen them if you’d paid attention, but your heart was with Lilian, so you ignored me.
“If you hadn’t been busy flirting with her and glanced at the document I gave you, we wouldn’t have divorced so fast.
“You’re the one who destroyed this relationship.”
Jeremy shook his head desperately, sobbing so hard he looked like he might pass out.
“Rosie, don’t say that. I know you still love me, right?”
I shook my head. Under his trembling gaze, I spoke slowly, “I don’t love you anymore. And honestly, you don’t either, do you?”
