After saying that, Grandma shakily stood up
and put the picture frame back in its place.
She stood there quietly, a smile back on her
face.
I sniffed, not sure if this illness was good or
bad for Grandma.
See, Grandma’s episodes were getting more
く
frequent; she’d forgotten Holly was dead
again.
The doorbell rang inopportunely again.
Grandma replied, “Coming, coming.”
Then, she slowly walked to the door.
The moment the door opened, Shane’s angry
face was clearly visible.
“Holly?”
Shane looked around.
I knew he was looking for me.
Grandma loved cleanliness and often cleaned.
Since getting Alzheimer’s, sometimes I would
see her cleaning the house twice.
The only difference was that this house, four
years later, still looked the same.
“Shane?”
Grandma was even more adorable after losing
her memory.
She eagerly called out, “Come in, Holly…
Holly went out, yes, she went out.”
<
“But where did she go?”
She turned to the window, muttering, “It’s
dark, Holly will be back soon.”
“She never spends the night out. She said she
needs to be with me to feel safe.”
