“Sis, say something.”
Brittany pressed me, acting all helpless.
I turned to the sales associate. “Go ahead
and wrap it up.”
Brittany stared at me like I’d committed a
crime.
I smiled at her. “Do you think I’m being
selfish?”
Brittany looked down. “I didn’t say that. I just
thought you could help them.”
I started clapping. “I’m so impressed by your
big heart.”
Brittany jumped. “What?”
I turned to Mom. “Since Brittany’s so
generous, maybe we should start a
foundation in her name.”
Mom looked interested, but hesitant. “But
Brittany only gets a hundred grand for an
allowance.”
“She just got back, and she’s so innocent and
<
thrifty. If she has that much cash she’ll get
scammed, it’s perfect for her, may as well let
her do it.”
I took a sip of my drink. “Think of it as
racking up good karma for her.”
I had Mom convinced.
Brittany was totally stunned. A couple of
sentences from me and Mom, and her
allowance was gone.
She opened her mouth to protest, but she
was afraid of ruining her saintly image, so she
tried to drag me down with her.
“Then maybe you should start one too?”
“I already started a foundation that helps girls
in rural areas, I spend millions on it every
year.”
I smiled. “If you need any advice, come to me
any time.”
Brittany’s face turned white as a ghost.
That’s more like it. It’s easy to spend other
people’s money, but you have to sacrifice
yourself.
