Chapter 60
During her seven years of being with Jonathan, people believed Giselle wasn’t good enough for him and was marrying above her station. Today, she heard someone say the opposite for the first time, leaving her feeling confused.
Chester offered her a tissue thoughtfully, then opened the car door. “I’m going to step out for a cigarette.”
He made sure to leave room for Giselle, knowing she had a strong personality and likely preferred to guard her vulnerable side. If
Chester were his partner, he wouldn’t allow Giselle to face her negative emotions alone.
He was cautious about crossing any boundaries that might jeopardize her trust. He was patient enough to wait.
Chester stood casually by the car in the darkness, a cigarette flickering between his fingers. Since finding out that Giselle was engaged to Jonathan, he locked himself away and smoked all night. Ultimately, he decided to quit as he realized that cigarettes
were detrimental to his health.
It was just an excuse to allow Giselle to cope with her stress alone. Once the cigarette was burned out, he threw the butt in the
trash.
Once Chester returned to the car, Giselle had regained her composure. She leaned in and sincerely expressed her gratitude,
saying, “Mr. Fordham, thank you.”
Chester wasn’t pleased to hear this. He quietly registered the information, convinced that he would reclaim it piece by piece once
he became her partner in the future.
The car arrived at Giselle’s house. She unbuckled her seat belt and reached for the door, but Chester locked it. Confused, she
asked, “Mr. Fordham?”
Chester gestured to the back of his hand and instructed, “Please apply the medicine here.”
Giselle was surprised he still remembered. Suspecting he might have obsessive–compulsive disorder, she dressed her injury.
Afterward, she asked Chester, “Is this okay, Mr. Fordham?”
Chester hummed as he unlocked the car, and the passenger window smoothly rolled down.
Giselle stood outside, thanking him again. She reminded him to drive carefully and asked him to let her know when he arrived
home safely.
Chester stifled a smile and nodded coldly. He cleared his throat and said, “Good night, Ms. Stone.”
He always said goodnight to her on WhatsApp, but when he said it in person, Giselle was surprised. She couldn’t pretend she
didn’t hear.
Chester rested one hand on the steering wheel, casting a sideways glance at her as he patiently awaited her response.
Giselle felt extremely pressured. Maintaining a facade of composure, she replied, “Goodnight.”

Chester felt a flicker of delight as he watched Giselle enter her apartment building. He left only after her unit light turned on.
Upon arriving home, Chester called Tony. The line was filled with a cacophony of voices, lively chatter, and enthusiastic cheers,
all accompanied by the roaring wind.
“Chet, what do you need from me at this hour? I’m in the middle of watching the game.”
Chester figured it out. He unbuttoned his shirt and remarked, “You did an excellent job with Jonathan. Now, I’m assigning you another task. Apply the same approach with Sebastian.”
Curiously, Tony asked about the reason, but Chester remained silent. Just as he was about to end the call, Tony lowered his voice
teasingly. “Chet, I just heard something shocking.”
Chester showed no interest and abruptly hung up the phone. To his surprise, Tony called back almost immediately.
The moment Chester picked up, Tony eagerly exclaimed, “It’s about
Giselle!”
