Chapter 66
Giselle was certain that Yvonne’s mother had not divorced and was still desperately clinging to their broken family. Yvonne was the only thing holding it together.
“I’m already 22. I dyed my hair, and do you know what she called me? She called me a whore…
Four hours later, Giselle and the others arrived at the Seaworth City Police Station.
As soon as they got out of the car, a middle–aged woman rushed forward and slapped Yvonne across the face.
“So, you’re finally willing to come back! Why didn’t you die out there with your useless father?” she shouted, her chest heaving
with rage as she hurled insults at Yvonne.
Everyone around them fell silent.
Giselle frowned. She stepped forward and stood protectively in front of Yvonne.
Yvonne clutched her reddened check, her short hair falling over her face, obscuring her expression.
“I fed you, clothed you, and raised you just so you could run off with those men? Yvonne, can’t you think?”
The woman continued her tirade. She even reached to grab Yvonne’s hand, but Giselle quickly blocked her.
Giselle’s gaze was cold as she asked, “I’m curious. Is Yvonne your daughter or enemy?”
Yvonne had just returned after being missing for days. And yet, instead of showing concern, her mother slapped her and cursed
her. Wasn’t that too much?
The woman’s lips trembled, and she remained silent for a long while, intimidated by Giselle’s piercing gaze.
Yvonne reached out and tugged at the hem of Giselle’s clothes. Her voice was raspy as she said, “I’m fine… I’m used to it.”
Yvonne had learned to obey her mother in exchange for validation. Whenever she went against her mother’s wishes, insults and beatings were a daily occurrence.
Jim stepped in to manage the situation.
The operation was a success largely because of Giselle. Without her and Chester, the issue would have been much harder to
resolve.
Ordinary people would have been suppressed by the forces behind Luxe Haven, but this time, it was different. The one who was injured was the head of the Lawson Group. Hence, they couldn’t escape no matter what.
Luxe Haven had grown too reckless.
After going through all the necessary procedures, the sky was already dark. Chester sent a message asking where Giselle was.

Giselle replied, “I’m still at the police station. I’ll be home soon.”
Chester texted, “Ok. I’m at the hospital. Uncle Richard is hospitalized.”
Giselle immediately felt a wave of anxiety. She quickly typed back, asking, “What happened to Grandpa?”
Chester replied, “It’s nothing serious. Don’t worry.
Among everyone in the Lawson family, Richard was the only one Giselle truly cared about. There weren’t many people who treated her well, so she cherished those who did.
Giselle told Chester she wanted to come by and asked him to send her the address.
Chester knew how stubborn she was, so he simply told her to wait. He would come to pick her up.
Time passed. Soon, the wind began to pick up, and then a torrential rain poured down. Giselle frowned.
A kind–hearted police officer offered to take her home. She smiled and politely declined. “No, thank you. My friend will be here
soon.”
Just a few minutes later, a tall figure appeared in her line of sight. She paused, momentarily stunned.
The rain pattered softly on the black umbrella, its crisp sound filling the air.
Chester, with his pale, almost ethereal complexion, was holding an umbrella. His features were striking, and the black shirt he wore only enhanced his noble presence.
He made his way toward Giselle with deliberate steps.
