Ms. Stone. His voice was clear and rich. It cut through the sound of the rain and lingered in her ears

Chester stood at the bottom of the stairs, his umbrella tilted forward, signaling for Giselle to come down and join him

Giselle paused, lost in thought. When had she become this close with Chester? Was it normal for a friend to come out in the rain and pick her up like this

An answer was

almost on the tip of her tongue, but she forced herself not to overthink it

She and Chester were two parallel lines, destined never to meet

Chester was the heir to a prestigious family, so he had encountered many types of women before. On top of that, she had once been his nephew’s fiancée. That made it even less likely for them to get together

Even if they did, others would surely gossip about her behind her back. They would say, Giselle couldn’t marry Jonathan, so she

married his uncle!”

It was scandalous just thinking about it

Giselle quickly pushed these absurd thoughts aside. There was no need for her to speculate. Maybe Chester simply felt sorry for

her. That was a possibility

The rain fell steadily against the umbrella, and her footsteps splashed in the puddles

Chester, ever the gentleman, opened the back door of the car. Only after Giselle had gotten in did he close the umbrella

How is Grandpa? What did the doctor say?Giselle asked worriedly as Chester started the car

He just needs some rest. There’s no major issue, but he must avoid too much stress,Chester replied

e elderly man’s health was fragile, and he couldn’t handle emotional upheaval

The

There was a 24hour fruit shop next to the hospital. Giselle got out of the car with an umbrella and bought a fruit basket

The hospital was eerily quiet at this late hour, Giselle followed Chester up in the elevator and arrived at the VIP ward

Richard sat on the hospital bed in a blueandwhite striped patient gown. His reading glasses were perched on his nose, and he

was slowly flipping through a book

He looked up when he heard footsteps

As soon as he saw Giselle, his eyes lit up with joy. Gigi, you’re here? Come, sit. Look at you. You’ve lost weight again. Haven’t you! been eating properly?”

Richard fussed over her at once

Giselle pulled up a chair next to his bed, sat down, and chatted with him for a while

Chester, ever considerate, stepped outside to give them some privacy

Jean had texted, What happened with Jonathan? I heard from Vivi that he got into a fight?”

Chester replied, It’s a long story.”

Given Jonathan’s past, Jean had assumed it was related to Charlotte

She came out of the lab, massaging her aching forehead. She wrote, Help me keep an eye on him for now. I’ll return to the country once I’m done here.”

Chester replied simply, Okay.”

Both Jonathan’s parents were still alive, but his life was almost like that of an orphan. He grew up with Richard

A father who worked in construction, a mother in research, and a rebellious sonit wasn’t the usual mix

By now, Jonathan had already been transferred to a hospital in Seaworth City. The hit he had taken had caused a dislocated

shoulder, but the doctors assured them that with rest, he would recover

Chester sent a brief message to express his concern, but he wasn’t particularly worried whether or not he received a reply

After waiting for a while on the bench, a voice suddenly sounded. Uncle Chester?”

The sound of footsteps grew louder, and Vivian ran up to Chester in surprise. You came to see Grandpa too?She had just left

Jonathan’s ward

Vivian had left home for a month, but no one had bothered to reach out and ask her to come back. With school starting soon, she had no choice but to swallow her pride and find an excuse to return
