Chapter 13
Jonathan’s eyes glinted when he saw the caller ID. Then, he stood up. “If you can reach Giselle, tell her that running away isn’t going to resolve anything.”
Larry was the second son of the Barton family. Now that he’d ended up in the hospital, there was no way the Barton family would let the matter slide so easily. That was why Jonathan was looking for Giselle. He could help her resolve this issue as long as she gave in and backed down..
Giselle only came out of the room when she heard Jonathan leave. Chester’s expression was still cold. “Did you hear everything?”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop,” she said, looking at him. “If Jonathan asks you about me again, you can just tell him we
don’t know each other well.”
He narrowed his eyes, a little displeased to hear that. It was hard to tell how he felt as he said, “I don’t like lying, though.‘
Giselle was taken aback by his words. However, Chester had no plans to reveal his true intentions so soon. He wanted to take things slow. He’d already waited a few years–waiting a little longer wouldn’t kill him. He was more patient than anyone could imagine.
He switched the subject. After lunch, he sent Giselle a document. They sat across from each other in the living room. The sky outside was gray and gloomy–it was going to pour again.
Giselle looked at the document. Then, she looked up in confusion. “What’s this, Mr. Fordham?”
“An investigative report a friend sent to me. It might be useful for you,” he said.
She fell silent. Why would anyone investigate an affluent family and dig up dirt on them for no reason? It just had to be the Barton
family, too.
She understood the situation even without Chester saying anything–he was helping her. She would remember the favors he’d
done her.
Giselle said seriously, “I’ll ensure you win the heart of the woman you want to pursue, Mr. Fordham.”
He chuckled, bringing some warmth to his gaze. He was handsome to begin with–this chuckle added to it. Giselle couldn’t help
feeling dazed as she stared at him, which pleased Chester,
He suppressed the urge to do something, his gaze darkening as he did so. Then, he said, “Thank you in advance, then,”
Giselle went to see Emma after leaving Chester’s villa. As the best female lawyer in Seaworth City, Emma was incredibly busy. She stretched lazily after completing her final task for the morning. Then, she looked at Giselle. “Sorry to keep you waiting. There’s a ton of stuff to do today.”
“It’s okay. It’s not too late for us to head to the hospital,” Giselle said.

“What?” Emma raised an eyebrow. “Why do we need to go there?”

“The Barton family is out for my blood now that I’ve knocked Larry unconscious. I have to deal with that,” Giselle had never been the type to escape her problems–it was a fact that she’d attacked Larry. The worst outcome would be a failed negotiation and jail
time for her.
She was alone in this world without anyone depending on her. She had nothing to fear.
Emma said, “I’ll deal with this, so you don’t need to bother about it. Don’t worry. Also, can you drink?”
Giselle was the epitome of natural and understated beauty. Her face was bare of makeup, yet she still looked gorgeous. If she were
still a student, she would be many students‘ dream girl.
It was odd to imagine her drinking, so Emma didn’t hold out hope. To her surprise, the answer was the opposite of what she
expected.
“Of course,” Giselle said.
Emma’s eyes lit up, and she beamed. “Do you like cute guys or domineering
guys?”
