Chapter 20
Giselle’s eyes glinted mockingly at Chester’s question. She clutched her mug so tightly that the veins on the back of her hand
protruded.
To put it bluntly, Phil was one of Jonathan’s lapdogs. He wanted to get in her pants but didn’t have the nerve to do so. He wouldn’t have dared to act like that last night without Jonathan’s permission. It looked like Jonathan had ultimately acted ruthlessly to avenge Charlotte.
Anger washed over Giselle. Chester took away her mug as she simmered. “You don’t have to answer me if it’s inconvenient, Ms
Stone.”
Giselle slowly calmed down at his words. She sat up in bed and searched for her phone, but it wasn’t anywhere to be found.
Chester saw what she wanted and handed it to her. His bodyguard had retrieved it and brought it over earlier in the morning while reporting to Chester.
She thanked Chester before calling Emma. Emma only answered before the call cut off. She rasped, “Hello…”
“Where are you, Ems?” Giselle asked.
Emma was a little slow on the uptake due to her hangover. “I think… I’m at home?”
Her uncertainty made Giselle ask, “Are you at the Barton residence?”
After a few seconds, Emma shot up in bed, crying, “What the hell? What am I doing here?”
She and Larry had moved into their own place after marriage–they only returned to Barton Manor during holidays. Now…
She massaged her throbbing temples and tried to recall what had happened last night. Giselle said, “I’ll explain everything t
later, Ems. Bye.”
She hung up and raised her head to meet Chester’s gaze. It flustered her for a second before she averted her gaze. Then, she thanked him earnestly. If not for him, she would’ve been tormented beyond recognition by now.
She’d been too careless. Giselle wouldn’t allow herself to make such a dumb mistake anymore!
“Is a ‘thank–you‘ all I’m getting?” Chester asked, sounding a little displeased.
Giselle added tentatively, “Uh… I can treat you to a meal.”

He readily accepted her offer, a hint of a smile flashing in his eyes. “Alright, then. If we include the meal you promised me when
we were abroad, you owe me three meals now.”
Giselle was suddenly reminded of something she’d forgotten–she thought Chester had forgotten all about that, but it seemed
she was wrong. He remembered everything!
Back in the day, Jonathan had remained in the country when she’d gone abroad as part of a student exchange program. Their

relationship had turned into a long–distance one, and they barely got to speak because of the time difference.

Later, Giselle had gotten jealous and started tormenting herself mentally upon learning that Jonathan had sponsored one of the female students in their college. Whenever they argued, it was more like a one–sided rant on her part,
Jonathan couldn’t be bothered to argue with her, so he’d blocked her number so she couldn’t disturb him anymore. Devastated by his action, Giselle had gone to a bar to drown her sorrows in alcohol.
She’d been horrible at holding her liquor at the time–one glass of wine had been enough to knock her out. Thanks to that, she’d done many stupid things before Chester,
Giselle glanced at his neck, feeling relieved when she didn’t see any bite marks on it. But in the next second…..
Chester raised his arm to show her the bite mark there. She stared at it silently. She couldn’t have left that there… right?
She was too embarrassed to say anything, which put Chester in a good mood. His eyes crinkled behind his glasses, and he said, “I think it’s better if you don’t drink anymore, Ms. Stone.”
