Chapter 24
Lawson Manor was located in the busiest spot in Seaworth City. So, every inch of space taken up by the manor was worth a fortune, making it out of almost everyone’s league.
Right at that moment, the tension in the manor’s living room was high. As soon as Jonathan walked in, a stack of papers was
thrown in his face.
“Jonathan Lawson, get down on your knees!”
Richard sat on the couch with his staff in his hand. His snowy–white hair was combed back impeccably, and his face was full of
anger.
Jonathan had no idea why, “Grandpa, what have I done wrong?”
“Has Gigi broken up with you?”
Jonathan hadn’t told Richard about the breakup. He thought that Giselle was just throwing a tantrum and would soon come
begging to get back together with him. So, there had been no need for him to tell anyone about it.
But now…
Jonathan frowned. “Did Giselle tell you?”
Jonathan’s attitude only sent Richard into further depths of fury. Since he was so worked up, he held a hand to his chest and
started coughing continuously. Jonathan hurried forward to thump him on the back.
Richard only managed to calm down a long while later. And the first thing he did was to use his staff to hit Jonathan on the call.
He was mad at Jonathan. “Look at the terrible things you did!”
Jonathan stopped backward in pain. He frowned even harder. “Giselle is the one acting up! What’s that got to do with me?“!
“Where were you last night?” Richard asked, forcing himself to calm down. Then, he glared down at Jonathan in an oppressing
manner.
“Charlotte was hospitalized because she got hurt. I was with her…”
“Does she need you to be with her? Are the Grants just decoration at this point? How could you leave Giselle in a place like that for an outsider like her? Don’t you know what kind of pervert that Phil could be?”
When Richard brought Phil up, Jonathan immediately thought of what Giselle mentioned to him a while ago.
She had said, “Then, shouldn’t you apologize for making Phil do such unspeakably obscene things to me?‘
“What did he do?” Jonathan asked.
“What did he not do? If Chet hadn’t happened to pass by just then, Giselle would have been completely done for!”

The whole manor descended into stunned silence at once.
Jonathan’s mind went blank. He asked instinctively, “What do you mean?”
“Phil drugged Giselle!”
Richard had already spelled it out plainly for Jonathan to see. It was impossible for Jonathan not to get what he meant.
That explained why Giselle had given him that look. Jonathan clenched his fists as his expression turned dark. “I’m going to find.
Phil now.”
“Stay right there!“” Richard used his staff to hit Jonathan again, forcing him to stop in his steps. “What’s the point of you going to
find him now? I would never have to worry this much about you if only you had half of your Uncle Chester’s sense of
responsibility!”
Richard was still the decision–maker of the Lawson household. He had three sons and a daughter. Jonathan’s father, Perry
Lawson, was his eldest son.
Richard should have handed over the position a long time ago, but Perry turned out to be a huge disappointment by refusing to take over the position. He didn’t want to be the heir. He wanted to do hard labor instead.
His other two sons were terrible at managing finances and doing business, so Richard has also given up on them. Luckily for him, Jonathan was proving himself to be a good candidate. That was why Richard spent so much time teaching him the ropes.
Richard had thought that he would finally be able to retire from his position, but now, Jonathan made him second–guess his
decision after making him worry from other aspects.
“Charlotte is a cunning woman, Giselle’s nothing like her,” Richard said, angry that Jonathan couldn’t understand his point. He thrust his staff forward again, but this time, Jonathan neatly ducked.
Jonathan retorted, “That’s because Giselle is marvelous at acting.”
She was two–faced, after all. At the very least, the person Jonathan was seeing her as now was Giselle’s other, dark side.
For all he knew, Giselle could have been the mastermind behind last night’s incidents, purposely getting into trouble so that Jonathan would feel pity for her and apologize to her first.
The more Jonathan thought about it, the more it made sense to him.
“Jonathan Lawson! You’ve been with Giselle for seven years! How can you still not know what kind of person she is? I don’t care. She’s the only granddaughter–in–law I want. If you dare to bring Charlotte home as your wife, you can consider yourself kicked out of the family as well!”
Richard was making things clear for Jonathan with his attitude, Jonathan could marry Charlotte if he wanted to, but he would
then be cut off from the Lawson family.
The tension in the air rose even more. It wasn’t until Chester appeared that the atmosphere began to let up a little.

Chested walked down the stairs. He was wearing a loose white button–up shirt with his sleeves rolled up slightly, exposing his
muscular forearms,
He looked very classy and elegant as he descended the stairs with a pair of gold–rimmed glasses framing his face.
Jonathan’s face was tense. He didn’t say a word.
Richard stabbed him with his staff. “Greet him!”
Half a minute later, Jonathan finally opened his mouth and greeted Chester with great dissatisfaction.
“Uncle Chester.”
Chester just hummed in response, acknowledging him. He then walked over to Richard and put down the book in his hands. Jean
had asked him to come over and retrieve it from her.
“I heard everything you both said,” Chester started. “Uncle Richard, feelings can’t be forced. Jonathan was the one who first had
a change of heart. You shouldn’t let him drag down an innocent young lady along”
Richard stayed quiet. Then, he said, “This is Jonathan’s fault. He got tricked by Charlotte…”
Chester narrowed his eyes when Richard was still standing up for Jonathan. He spoke in his low voice that immediately turned
icy. “He’s already 25 years old, and he still doesn’t know how to tell right from wrong? It was also because of Charlotte the last time that landed them all at the police station!”
Richard hadn’t known about this. When he heard the full story, he was fuming mad
“Jonathan Lawson!”
Jonathan clenched his fists harder. He knew now that he hated Chester even more than ever.
He stood up straight and spoke in a fierce voice like he was warning Chester. “Uncle Chester, this doesn’t seem to be any of your
business.”
Almost immediately, Jonathan got hit with Richard’s staff once more.
Richard glared at him fiercely as he seethed. “None of his business? If it weren’t for him, something terrible would have already. happened to Giselle!”
Giselle was just a weak and helpless young woman who’d been drugged by a pervert. She would have been no match for him!
Chester shifted his position, suddenly displaying the bite mark on his arm. Jonathan caught sight of it immediately. He felt his heart drop into the pits of his stomach.
Richard told him that Giselle had been drugged and Chester had saved her. In other words, did Chester and Giselle spend the night together after all?
If that was the case, was this bite mark from Giselle?

Jonathan found it harder to breathe as his thoughts went wild and borderline ridiculous. He asked on instinct, “What’s with the
bite mark on your arm?”
It was right at that moment that Giselle happened to walk in.
Richard, Jonathan, and Chester turned to look at her at the same time.
The corners of Chester’s lips lifted very briefly before they went back to normal. Then, he replied faintly, “I got bitten by a
kitten.
