Chapter 28
Hector knew that the people from the elite social circle wouldn’t dare to talk bad about Chester behind his back. However, that
didn’t mean they would spare Giselle from their mockery and ridicule.
He knew they would think Giselle got together with Chester through questionable means. They would deem her shameless for trying to get Chester to support her.
In other words, only Giselle would be on the losing end of this situation.
“There’s no hurry,” Chester said, his voice low. He then took a sip of coffee and said, “I was the one who liked her first. I won’t
allow anyone to hurt her with their words.”
Giselle only deserved nice things, after all.
“So you’re planning to lure her into your trap very slowly? Aren’t you worried that someone will get to her before you’ve even
reached your goal?”
“That’s impossible,” Chester said with much certainty.
Hector continued running his big mouth. “Why is it impossible? Giselle’s taste in men is quite terrible, after all. Why else would she ignore you and go after that bastard instead? You’d better not cry if someone else snatches her away from you.”
Chester lowered his gaze as he fought to suppress his emotions. “It was an accident for her to fall in love with Jonathan. People
act rashly when they’re young, hormonal teenagers and all that.”
He had gotten someone to look up Giselle’s background as soon as he realized his feelings for her. That included everything she did with Jonathan. He knew every little detail like it was the back of his hand.
He knew that they used to be in love. He also knew that they’d fallen out of love later on.
Most importantly, he saw the determination in Giselle’s eyes. Hector’s hypothesis didn’t hold water. Giselle was a prideful person. She wouldn’t let herself repeat the same mistakes and lower herself for anyone else again.
Hector wanted to continue talking, but Chester’s next question suddenly silenced him.
“Enough about me. What’s going on with you and that apprentice of yours anyway?”
Night fell. Chester prepared himself and set off for his dinner date.
He had put in some effort choosing the clothes he’d be wearing to dinner. He wore a black linen button–up shirt with a black wife–beater underneath. His hair was styled light and bouncy, and his gold–rimmed glasses made him look elegant.
He became the center of attention as soon as he stepped inside the restaurant.
Giselle tried not to look too pleasantly surprised when she saw him. “Mr. Fordham,” she greeted politely.

Chester nodded slightly and pulled out the chair opposite her before sitting down. The waiter then brought in their food almos
once.
Giselle said, “Would you like to order anything else, Mr. Fordham? I wasn’t sure what you liked, so-”
“I like whatever you like,” Chester said, interrupting Giselle mid–sentence. The look in his eyes was rather ambiguous, but Giselle didn’t even dare to hold his gaze.
He made her feel tense and oppressed, somehow, and the feeling was stronger than any other person she’d met before. Also,
Giselle couldn’t never guess what was going on in his mind at any given time.
People like him were the most dangerous.
However, out of all the people she knew, he was the only person left who could temporarily help her with her pressing issue.
She’d already owed too many people too many favors–one more wouldn’t matter anymore. At least, that was what Giselle told
herself so that she’d feel less bad.
Giselle ate mindlessly and distractedly throughout dinner. Chester seemed to have noticed it too. So, he ate at a faster pace while
still managing to look classy and elegant.
Less than ten minutes later, he finally put down his fork and dabbed at his lips with a napkin. His eyes reflected Giselle’s beautifu
face in them.
“Ms. Stone, there’s more to tonight than just dinner, right?”
Giselle couldn’t help but be in awe of Chester’s intuition. So, she went straight to the point and said, “Mr. Fordham, can you
please ask your friend for me if he’d be willing to rent that villa to me for 1000 dollars a month?”
She couldn’t help feeling anxious. The most she could afford to pay for her rent every month was 1000 dollars.
For the past seven years, her focus had been entirely on Jonathan. Every penny she earned from her secret job back then, spent it all on him. So, she barely had any savings herself.

Now, she had no savings and no relationship. She never felt more like a failure in her past 20–something years of life than now.
“The rent is only 300 dollars, and it’s non–negotiable,” Chester said in his low, magnetic voice.
