Chapter 32
Linda swiped her arm across the table to knock everything to the floor. Soup splattered everywhere, even staining Giselle’s pants.
Emma, standing by the door, narrowly avoided the mess.
“Giselle Stone! Without the Lawson family backing you, you’re nothing! If I were you, I’d keep my head down and play nice. If it
weren’t for Lottle’s generosity, do you think you could still stay in Seaworth City?”
Charlotte’s whole persona was that of an innocent, sweet, kind lady. After being away for over 20 years, she was still magnanimous toward the person who stole her life. Everyone praised her for having a heart of gold.
Giselle couldn’t stand people like that.
She clicked her tongue. “Who says I can’t find a new backer now that the Lawson family’s out of the picture?”
For a few seconds, silence fell. Then Linda snarled, “You shameless bitch! Who’d even want you?”
Her insults grew nastier by the second.
Emma was about to snap, but Giselle beat her to it. She picked up a used napkin from the floor and shoved it right into Linda’s
open mouth.
The sound of dry heaving replaced her curse.
Giselle watched her coldly. “Sorry, your mouth was so foul. I mistook it for a trash can.”
The good mood Giselle had all evening was completely ruined by Linda. She sat in the passenger seat, lost in thought.
As Emma buckled up, she tried to comfort her. “Gigi, don’t be upset because of people like that.”
“I’m not upset. I’m just thinking.”
“About what?”
“I think the Grants have known all along that I wasn’t related to them,” Giselle replied.
The words hit Emma like a bombshell, leaving her shaken to the core. “They knew all along? Then why did they…”
Having seen the cutthroat nature of the wealthy, Emma knew they’d do anything for their own benefit. The Grants‘ motives
impossible to guess.

But Giselle shrugged. “It’ll come out sooner or later. Linda’s too dumb to keep it hidden.”
Linda’s family was just new money.
Back in middle school, Giselle overheard Harold say that if the Grant family hadn’t faced a financial crisis, there was no way he

would have ever married the daughter of a nouveau riche family. She hadn’t heard the rest because she’d been caught and beaten
for it.
Come to think of it now, it all seemed suspicious. There was more to the Grant family than met the eye.
Emma drove with soft, relaxing music playing in the car as she headed to drop Giselle off.
The light turned green. Just as she moved through the intersection, a Bentley suddenly cut in from the left. She slammed on the
brakes, causing the tires to screech loudly.
“What the fuck!” she cursed.
After checking that Giselle was okay, she got out of the car immediately.
“What the fuck is wrong with you? Didn’t you see the red light? Do you have a death wish? If you’re in such a hurry to die, pick a
less crowded place so you don’t take others with you!”
Her words drew a crowd.
Giselle rubbed her forehead as she stepped out and walked over to Emma’s side.
The driver who had run the red light, along with the person sitting in the backseat, also got out.
When Giselle saw their faces, her expression turned cold. She muttered under her breath, cursing her bad luck.
Jonathan frowned, staring at her with his lips pressed into a thin, tight line.
His driver lowered his head in apology. “I’m so sorry, miss. This was my fault. We were in a rush.”
But Emma was still fuming.
As the tension hung thick in the air, Jonathan tossed a check for a million dollars in her direction. It fluttered down, landing at
Giselle’s feet.
His face was cold, and his gaze dripped with disdain. “Is this enough, Giselle?”
