The night was deepening, and the parking lot was silent except for the sound of cicadas and the approaching footsteps of a man.
The sudden sound made Giselle tense. She clenched her fists and turned, only relaxing when she saw it was Chester
“Sorry, did I scare you?” Chester apologized when he noticed the tension in her expression.
“It’s fine.” Giselle waved it off. She looked up and met his gaze. “Mr. Fordham, why are you in the hospital this late? Is your stomach bothering you again?”
Under the dim streetlight, she could clearly see Chester’s pale face. His chiseled features made him look almost ethereal
“No, I came to find Hector.” Chester had already prepared a suitable reason for his visit while waiting.
Hector worked at the hospital, and they were good friends. This made him a perfect excuse.
Chester’s true purpose had always been Giselle.
“Oh,” came Giselle’s simple response, and the atmosphere became subtly awkward.
Chester smiled faintly. Suppressing the glint in his eyes, he said, “I actually need to talk to you about something.”
Giselle had a faint inkling of what it might be. “Is it about Phil?”
“Yes, if the police ask you anything, just say you don’t know. I’ll handle the rest.”
Giselle’s feelings became complicated by his words. She hesitated for a moment before replying, “Mr. Fordham, you don’t really need to get involved with Phil’s matter. I—”
“Don’t feel burdened by it. Just think of him as my enemy,” Chester cut her off. His gaze behind his glasses became sharp and
Intense.
He believed that Giselle was capable of handling things on her own. He could respect her wishes and stay out of everything else,
but this matter was different.
Phil dared to harm someone Chester cared about. The fact that he was still breathing was something he should be grateful for.
Sensing the sudden shift in Chester’s energy, Giselle wisely chose to stay quiet.
Perhaps he really did have some deep, personal vendetta against Phil. After all, she doubted there was anything about her that
would make Chester treat her differently.
Besides…
Giselle couldn’t help but glance at Chester’s arm. He was wearing long sleeves today, so she couldn’t see the bite marks she had
left.
They should have healed by now, right?

While her mind wandered, a strong, woody fragrance suddenly filled the air. Cold fingers brushed against her cheek, then settled
in her hair.
“Don’t move.”
Jonathan sat in the passenger seat of a car not far away. He was applying an ice pack to the side of his face where he had been slapped
His eyes were filled with rage, and the driver was too terrified to even breathe. He didn’t even dare ask if they were heading back
to Lawson Manor or Jonathan’s other residence.
Just then, Jonathan’s phone buzzed, and Charlotte’s soft voice came from the other end. “…Jonathan, are you home yet? My hand hurts so much. I can’t sleep.”
Normally, Jonathan would have comforted her with a few kind words. But today, he was far too enraged.
The slap Giselle had given him was nothing short of pure humiliation!
After waiting for a long time without a response, Charlotte couldn’t help but feel anxious. She called out again, “Jonathan?”
He responded with a short grunt.
Charlotte immediately sensed something was off. “Is something wrong? You sound upset.”
Jonathan wasn’t just upset. He was a ticking time bomb, ready to explode.
He remained silent for a moment before asking, “Do you know about Giselle and Hector?”
During their relationship, Jonathan rarely concerned himself with Giselle’s matters. Everything he knew about her and the Grants. came from Charlotte’s one–sided account.
