Chapter 11
“What the hell is going on here?!” Maxwell’s voice rang out sharply.
Everyone fell silent as they gaped in shock. The man who stepped out didn’t need to introduce himself. They recognized him instantly.
Alpha Maxwell.
“Oh my goodness! It’s Alpha Maxwell!” The pack members exclaimed among themselves in excitement.
The Alpha of Aeternum Pack, Alpha Maxwell was a legend. He was far too powerful to attend something as small as Gideon’s mating ceremony, so it was a huge surprise to even see him here.
Maeve started to move toward him, but Gideon grabbed her arm.
“What do you think you’re doing?” He hissed sharply.
“You can’t just approach him,” He hissed under his breath. “That’s the Alpha of the Aeternum Pack, the largest pack. Don’t embarrass yourself even more.
“Leave now.”
Maeve smiled coyly. “Why should I leave? My mate is here.”
It was an unbelievable story. Everyone knew that Gideon wasn’t even on Alpha Maxwell’s level. His pack was ten times larger than Gideon’s pack, so there was no way a rejected omega like Maeve could even breathe the same air as him.
Gideon sneered at her, but it was Wren who replied her.
“In your dreams, Maeve,” she snapped, “Alpha Maxwell is not on your level at all. Do you even know what you’re ing about? You’re
nothing–just a rejected omega clinging to fantasies. Pathetic!” She spat Venomously.
Gideon tightened his grip on her arm. “Don’t give us a bad name by trying to whore yourself out to Alpha Maxwell.”
Maeve yanked her arm out of Gideon’s tight grip. “Get your hands off me, you vile coward!” She snapped.
Gideon’s expression darkened. “How dare you?” He growled.
Maeve saw his fist approaching her face, and she flinched, closing her eyes to brace for the hit.
It never came. When she opened her eyes, Maxwell was standing in front of her, holding Gideon’s fist with a murderous expression on his face.
“How dare you?” Maxwell gritted through clenched teeth, his voice low and dangerous.
The crowd froze. No one dared to speak.
Gideon paled as he stared at the murderous look on Maxwell’s face. “I….I…was just… She was trying to crash the ceremony. I was just escorting her out…
Maxwell gave him an icy glare, pushing his fist down. “Are you throwing me out of your ceremony, Gideon?”
Gideon gaped in horror, shaking his head frantically, “No, no, Alpha Maxwell. I can never. You don’t understand, I said that-”
Maxwell cut him off with a cold look on his face. “I understand very well what you’re saying, Gideon.”
Maxwell didn’t bother with using Gideon’s title. “What I want to know is why you invited me, if you’re going to tell me to my face to leave.”
Gideon was confused. He didn’t understand
ALL
what was going on. He never told Alpha Maxwell to leave. How could he? It was an honor for Alpha Maxwell to even grace his ceremony. Gideon was even shocked to see him here, even though he sent the invitation to him.
“Please, I don’t under-”
Maxwell cut him off again. “What is there not to understand? Do you expect me to stay here any longer when you’re throwing my mate out? When you’re manhandling her? When you insulted me by laying hands on my mate?” He sneered.
Gasps of disbelief echoed through the crowd, as they glanced at Maeve.
Gideon had not yet realized what Maxwell was trying to say, maybe it was the denial that Maeve could never leave him, and there was no way she could be with Alpha Maxwell.
“Your–Vour mate? Wb
“be choked out
“Your–Your mate? Where?” he choked out.
Maxwell didn’t respond with words. Instead, he turned to Maeve and reached out his hand slowly. His expression was soft as he gazed at her with all the love in the world.
Maeve hesitated for a moment, her heart pounding in her chest, before she took his hand.
Maxwell smiled softly as he pulled her close, wrapping his arm around her waist protectively, and possessively. The gesture was very clear, she was his.
Gideon spluttered. “What? No–what? This… this doesn’t make sense! I don’t understand. It can’t be true.”
“Yes, Gideon, Maxwell said, his voice was cold and firm. “My mate. My Luna, Chosen by the Moon Goddess herself.”
Wren’s mouth fell open.
