Chapter 12
Gasps echoed around them. Everyone’s eyes darted between Maxwell and Maeve.
Maeve? His mate?
Whispers spread across the crowd who were watching intently.
“No way… did he say mate?”
“That omega?”
“She’s… his?”
Gideon staggered back, shaking his head in disbelief. His world was spinning. “No, that can’t be true…”
Maeve smiled, “Like I earlier said, Gideon. You invited me, when you invited my mate, Alpha Maxwell.”
Gideon’s face twisted with disbelief and

confusion. “You’re lying! This is some kind of twisted joke! You can’t be his mate. You’re just doing this to spite me!”
Maeve laughed. “Really? Do you think you’re that important?”
Wren laughed nervously as she stepped closer with a forced smile on her face. “Alpha Maxwell, you are such a great and renowned Alpha. Your pack is the largest and the most powerful pack.” She started.
She pointed toward Maeve.
“What I don’t understand is how someone like her could ever be your mate. She’s an omega. A nobody!”
Maxwell’s eyes darkened at Wren’s words.
“Careful, both of you,” he warned coldly. “That’s the second time you’ve insulted my Luna. I won’t tolerate a third.”
Everyone tensed as the thickened with

authority. No one dared to interrupt. Maeve looked directly at Gideon now. Gideon realized that she looked so different now.
She looked regal, calm, and beautiful. Was it the dress? He asked himself.
“Why is it so hard to believe, Gideon?” Maeve asked quietly. “Is it because you thought I would always stay beneath you?”
Gideon clenched his jaw, but she wasn’t done.
“Because you thought I would remain the omega you could mock and trample on, and I would just keep chasing after scraps of love from you?”
Gideon opened his mouth, but Maeve cut him off before he could form a word.
“Well, you were wrong,” she said sharply, “And I’m done waiting around for you, I’m done chasing after your scraps of love.”
Wren refused to believeth Maeve had
landed a bigger Alpha that she had. She had Gamma bloodline, Maeve was a lowly omega.
“Bullshit!” She spat. “This is all a
performance. Alpha Maxwell would never choose someone like you.”
She sneered. “Tell us, what did you promise to give him in exchange for all these? Are you whoring yourself to him? Because everyone knows that you’re just a used–up little omega with nothing to offer!”
“Enough!” Maxwell barked, turned to her with his eye’s blazing with anger.
Everyone flinched at the intensity of his voice, and they hurriedly stepped away from Wren to avoid being included in Maxwell’s wrath.
Wren paled as she stumbled back. She just realized that she might have gone too far.
“I’ve been patient I’vet
“I’ve been patient. I’ve tolerated your disrespect, trying to be nice. But it seems like you don’t even deserve it.”
Maeve placed her hand gently on Maxwell’s arm. He glanced at her, and she shook her head, silently telling him to let it go.
He clenched his jaw, before he finally relaxed, releasing a deep breath.
Maxwell raised his voice as he looked across the crowd.
“I’ll let this pass now! But let it be known,” he announced. “From this day forward, Maeve is my Luna, and the Luna of the Aeternum Pack. Anyone who disrespects her disrespects me. And anyone who lays a finger on her…” he glanced at Gideon, his voice like ice, “…will not live to regret it.”
With that, he turned to Maeve.
“Are you ready, my Luna?” he asked gently.
Maeve nodded as tears of joy welled up in her eyes. “Yes. I am.””
Gideon’s eyes widened in surprise, “Wait, you’re leaving?”
Maeve lifted an eyebrow, “What do you think?”
He spluttered in disbelief, “But…but you can’t leave!”
Maeve tilted her head in mock curiosity, “Really, and why is that?”
“Because…what about… the Pack? The Pack needs you, the pack clinic needs you! You can’t just abandon everything!” He exclaimed.
Maeve shrugged dismissively, “They can all manage just fine. Besides, you said that I was just an omega, a nobody. So, what can a nobody do for your pack, Gideon?”
had nothing to say to that. Then suddenly he smirked smugly, surprising everyone around.
“Well, you’re forgetting one thing.” He drawled.
Maeve wasn’t fazed by his smug look. “And what is that?”
“You haven’t been officially released by the alpha of your pack to leave.” He said with glee dancing in his eyes.
