Chapter22
She felt alarmed.
Vicente’s wavering attitude was a bad sign. Sylvia couldn’t allow this.
She bit her lower lip before speaking softly, “I’ve troubled everyone with my problems today. I can take care of myself now. You guys should go home and rest.”
Braylon nodded. “It’s late. There are two nurses outside if you need. anything. Call us if anything comes up.”
After a few more instructions, he left with Belinda.
Nielsen and Jennifer exchanged a glance with Sylvia, signaling they’d
talk later.
One by one, they left the hospital room, with Vicente being the last to
- go.
Sylvia softly called out, “Vicente.”
He hesitated before approaching, crouching slightly beside her bed.
“Sylvia, focus on recovering.”
Her voice wavered uncertainly. “Vicente… you’re upset with me, aren’t you?”
“Of course not,” he replied. “I’m happier than anyone that you’re okay.”
“But today, you kept defending Yesenia.”
“But today you kept defending Yesenia,” Sylvia blurted out her
grievance.
Vicente hadn’t expected this. Instinctively, he denied it, “I wasn’t taking her side!”
The words sounded hollow even to him.
It wasn’t so much about taking Yesenia’s side. It was more accurate to say that he didn’t unconditionally take Sylvia’s side this time.
Before, he’d always stood firmly with Sylvia, condemning Yesenia without question.
But this time, he couldn’t bring himself to do so.
Unable to meet Sylvia’s
no gaze, he turned away.
Sylvia understood immediately.
“I screwed up. I actually thought I could fix this and make Yesenia happy again after everything my birth parents put her through in Bruwania. But I just make everything worse.”
Vicente’s expression softened slightly, showing signs of wavering.
“I’m just useless?” Sylvia suddenly hit her own head hard.
Vicente couldn’t bear to see her hurt herself. He immediately grabbed her wrists, guilt flooding his heart.
How could he have doubted Sylvia? He recalled how he’d nearly gotten her killed years ago.

“I’m sorry, Sylvia.” Vicente said remorsefully. “This is all fault. You’re caught in trouble, and instead of helping, I wasted time on..
He exhaled heavily. “Don’t worry about the online backlash. I’ll handle
- it. Just focus on recovering.”
His eyes filled with concern. “Your health has always been fragile. Getting upset over this isn’t worth it.”
Sylvia peered up cautiously. “Are you still mad at me?”
“How could I ever be mad at you?” Vicente ruffled her hair affectionately.
Sylvia threw her arms around his waist. “Having you in my life makes me so happy.”
Then she added quietly, “You were supposed to be Yesenia’s dear brother. I understand her resentment against me. I deserve it.”
Vicente flicked her forehead lightly.
“Stop talking nonsense. I wouldn’t want a sister like Yesenia.” His tone dripped with disdain.
Hearing these familiar words, Sylvia finally felt relieved completely.

After preparing an elaborate lunch for Jayvion, Yesenia left under the pretext of buying school supplies.
She packed a few belongings and exited the manor, where a Lexus SUV waited at the gate.
Assuming Rohan had arranged the transportation, Yesenia opened the door and bent to enter. Then she froze.
The impeccably dressed man in the backscat was impossible to miss.
Despite the spacious interior, his long legs still appeared slightly

cramped, suggesting an impressively tall stature when standing.
Yesenia blinked in surprise. “Mr. Wyatt?”
Jayvion gave her a cursory glance. “I’m heading out anyway. Rohan asked me to give you a ride.”
Yesenia doubted his explanation.
She wouldn’t believe that Jayvion would be willing to do as Rohan
asked.
Still, she slid into the car without protest.
Their trip from Erton Valley brought them quickly to the city’s largest
bookstore.
Yesenia patted her small backpack. “This might take a while. Did you want to run your errands first, Mr. Wyatt?”
Jayvion gave her a self–righteous look. “Get back on your own.”
Suppressing a smile, Yesenia replied, “Alright, Mr. Wyatt.”
She hopped out of the car. Jayvion watched her happily walk away, letting out a snort. “Drive.”
Inside the bookstore, Yesenia handed her prepared list to a clerk who promptly gathered her requested materials.
Within five minutes, she completed her purchase and hailed a taxi.
She arrived at Kraitburgh Central Hospital.
In her previous life, this was where she had undergone a kidney transplant with Sylvia. Not long after the surgery, her health started to deteriorate rapidly.
Chapter 12
Today she needed to verify certain details.
Yesenia carried her small backpack when she spotted a women’s restroom ahead..
Before she could enter, a sharp voice shouted, “Yesenia, how dare your show up? Come apologize to Sylvia right now!”
Jennifer charged forward with a twisted expression and grabbed
Yesenia’s arm.
A scheme formed in her mind. If she forced Yesenia to apologize to Sylvia on camera and posted it online, maybe the public would stop. attacking Sylvia.
If not for this little wretch, Sylvia wouldn’t have suffered! The mocking comments online were unbearable to read.
Jennifer’s grip tightened at the thought. Her manicured nails, adorned with elaborate fake tips, dug into Yesenia’s flesh as if she wanted to crush her bones.
Yesenia frowned, momentarily stunned by the sudden assault, then shoved Jennifer’s hand away. “Let go.”
Caught off guard, Jennifer stumbled back, her high heels twisting her ankle. She gasped in pain.
Yesenia ignored her and kept walking.
Jennifer tried to chase after her, but a sharp pain shot through her foot when she moved.
Furious, she completely disregarded the hospital’s quiet atmosphere and screeched, “You ingrate! How dare you push me? After I raised you for eighteen years, this is how you repay me?”
Her outburst drew a crowd.
Emboldened by the audience, Jennifer placed her hands on her hips. and cried out dramatically, “Everyone, help me out here! I raised her diligently for 18 years, only to find out she wasn’t even my real
daughter because of some hospital mix–up! And just when I finally got my true daughter back, this wretched girl went out of her way to ruin her life! She drove my precious daughter to the hospital, and now she refuses to apologize and even attacks me!”
