- 8.
Through his days of confession, I learned why
he had come to me.
As the sole heir to the Sullivan family, one of
the wealthiest in Beijing, he should have had
a carefree life.
But because his life was too carefree, he was
exceptionally rebellious.
To correct his rebellious nature, his father cut
off his card and kicked him out.
He ordered, “Don’t come back until you’ve
proven yourself!”
His friends gloated and bet him that he
couldn’t find a powerless girl to truly fall for
him. If she did, they’d fund his business
ventures and help him return to the Sullivan
family.
I was their unfortunate choice.
But when he truly loved me, he found I wasn’t
wholly devoted to him.
く
He was furious that I had lied to him, and he
left.
Hearing this, I felt nothing. The past is past;
there’s no point in reminiscing.
Under Johnny’s supervision, the workers
worked overtime and finally finished our new
home.
He moved in with my urn, locked the door,
turned off his phone, cutting himself off from
the world.
Ethan was frantic, fearing for him, and finally
contacted Johnny’s father.
Johnny’s father was on business trip in
France. Upon receiving the news, he
immediately booked a return flight.
Ethan shouted over the garden wall.
Johnny didn’t respond.
He bought the same bed we had slept on,
curled up on the bed, staring at my urn.
Back in this familiar yet unfamiliar place,
Johnny recalled many details about our time
together.
Her every smile.
Her every caring glance, her every concerned word, were so vividly present in his mind.
Johnny missed Neena; the longing ached in
his heart.
Suddenly, he said to the cold urn, “Neena,
let’s get married. Will you marry me?”
I widened my eyes.
Was Johnny losing his mind?
Due to weather conditions, the plane was
delayed.
His father was stuck in France, worried about
his son, and had the Sullivan family
bodyguards break down the door.
Johnny was forcibly pulled out by four or five
bodyguards.
Ethan, seeing him unharmed, finally breathed
a sigh of relief.
Seeing Johnny’s distraught state, Ethan
sighed. “Wanda said there are some of
Neena’s belongings in the nightclub break
room. Do you want to go see them?”
Hearing this, Johnny finally reacted.
He pushed away the bodyguards and
stumbled toward a car.
Ethan settled him in the passenger seat and
sped towards the nightclub.
Wanda silently led them to my closet and left.
Johnny stared at the God of Wealth picture
on the closet door and laughed, then burst
into tears.
How desperate for money could she be, to
く
stick a God of Wealth sticker on a nightclub
locker?
Inside, there wasn’t much.
Besides an accounting book, a yellowed
photo with an unclear image, and a bottle of
the cheapest painkillers, there was nothing
else.
He trembled as he picked up the photograph.
Seeing the cartoon pig on the back, his tears
flowed even more fiercely.
He had drawn it himself.
This photo was their only photo together.
The day he got his first paycheck, he took her
to the cheapest buffet.
く
Neena’s cheeks puffed out as she ate; it was
adorable.
He couldn’t resist, asking a couple with an
instant camera to take their picture.
“You kept this picture with you all along.”
I stared at him impassively, feeling no
emotion, only annoyance.
Annoyed by his tears, his false sentimentality.
