Chapter 4
I turned around and saw a bright red Ferrari parked by the roadside, with an elegant and stylish woman stepping out of it…
Looking at that face, even more exquisite and pretty than I remembered, I felt momentarily dazed.
Jocelyn eyed the Ferrari and mocked me, “Oscar, you really went all out to force me to marry you, hiring an actress and even renting a Ferrari. I wonder how many hours your measly salary can afford!”
Susan took my arm and asked with confusion, “Renting what car?”
Jocelyn continued her outrageous comments, “Oscar, sign this agreement now and we’ll go get our marriage certificate, otherwise good luck finding anyone else who would marry you!”
She threw the agreement on the ground, expecting me to swallow my pride as I had done before.
I tried to pull Susan away, but she was drawn to the contents of the agreement on the ground.
Her delicate face immediately flushed with anger as she asked, “So you’re the one bullying my husband?”
Jocelyn smirked disdainfully, “Husband? Already in character?

How much is Oscar paying you anyway? You’re really playing the part.”
Susan didn’t bother being polite. She immediately instructed her assistant to suspend all business dealings with Jocelyn’s
company.
Jocelyn burst into laughter, “Suspending business with my company? Fine, I’d like to see how a small–time actress like you could possibly affect my business!”
The next second, Jocelyn’s phone rang.
After hearing the contents of the call, her face instantly turned pale.
Someone nearby whispered, “She looks familiar. Where have I seen her before?”
“I remember now! She’s the CEO of Universal Tech! The first female CEO in the company’s history. She was even on the prime–time national news broadcast recently!”
Susan ignored those who recognized her and tried to strike up a conversation, instead pulling me straight into the civil affairs office.
Following her steps, I instinctively glanced back and saw Jocelyn’s face had turned ashen with barely concealed rage.
I couldn’t understand what she was so angry about.

The staff at the civil affairs office quickly handed us our marriage certificate with the official seal.

Looking at my beaming face on the marriage certificate, I was still in a daze.
Seeing me staring at the certificate, Susan teased, “What’s wrong? Stunned by my beauty? We both look good–the camera didn’t do us any injustice.”
The two people on the marriage certificate–a handsome man and a beautiful woman–made a perfect match.
Just like that, I suddenly became a married man, and my spouse wasn’t the person I had originally set my heart on.
Yet surprisingly, I felt a sense of peace in my heart. I believed Susan and I would have a wonderful life together.
After getting our marriage certificate, I went to the bathroom and happened to overhear Jocelyn’s group talking outside.
They were smoking by the bathroom entrance, filling the area with a haze of smoke.
Through the thick cloud, someone asked doubtfully, “Hey, did Oscar really marry someone else?”
“No way. He’s so in love with Jocelyn, how could he marry someone else? It must be an actress he hired. He’s been so desperate since Jocelyn’s been ignoring him that he came here to pressure her into marriage.”

Hearing their conversation, Jocelyn immediately laughed and said, “Right, you’re absolutely right. It must be an actress he hired. Oscar is just my follower. If I tell him to go east, he wouldn’t dare go west. He’s definitely trying to force me to marry him. Does he think I’d fall for it? Absolutely not!”
After speaking, she forcefully stubbed out her cigarette, and her previously tense expression gradually relaxed.
At that moment, I noticed Hugo’s eyes filled with resentment.

Even Jocelyn herself didn’t realize that her tone still carried a hint of attachment to me.
Soon after, Hugo began coughing violently. Jocelyn immediately panicked, telling everyone to put out their cigarettes. She rushed to Hugo’s side, asked him a few questions, and hurriedly left with him.
I remembered when Jocelyn picked up smoking from those toxic friends. I had tried so hard to help her quit, but nothing worked.
I would put gum and mints in every pocket of her clothes and prepare cut fruit for her.
But she thought I was meddling, complaining that she had no freedom with me, that I even controlled her smoking.
Yet all of this couldn’t compare to a single cough from Hugo.
Just one cough from Hugo, and Jocelyn’s addiction that she

could never quit before was instantly suppressed.
As Jocelyn left with her group, I saw Hugo turn back and give me a challenging smile.

Neither she nor he would ever make me feel miserable again.
I had been gone for quite a while without returning, so Susan came looking for me.
When she found me, she witnessed Jocelyn leaving with my brother.
She gently took my hand and smiled, “Don’t be sad over people who aren’t worth it. If she hadn’t been so shortsighted, I might have had to wait for someone much longer.”

I squeezed Susan’s hand back, thinking, yes, don’t be sad over people who aren’t worth it, and don’t be like Jocelyn, who dropped a watermelon to pick up spaghetti.
True happiness was already in my grasp.
