Chapter 6
Hugo was embracing a woman in a spaghetti strap dress, his hands wandering inappropriately over her body.
I couldn’t help but think to myself that Jocelyn had moved quickly, going straight to Hugo after leaving me.
Susan spotted the couple in the distance and frowned. “Just our luck, running into someone annoying while out for a late–night snack.”
When the woman turned her head with a flirtatious laugh, I realized she wasn’t Jocelyn–I didn’t recognize her at all.
Yet she was carrying the luxury handbag I had given to Jocelyn.
That bag had sat in Jocelyn’s shopping cart for ages before I finally bought it as her birthday gift, which is why I remembered it so clearly.
I took out my phone and snapped a photo of the intimate couple.
Zooming in, I noticed the woman was wearing the bracelet I had recently given Jocelyn as one of our wedding gifts.
The restaurant was crowded, so Hugo hadn’t noticed me.
Then, to my shock, Hugo stood up from his wheelchair!
Chapter 6
He walked to the condiment station with steady steps, showing
absolutely no signs of the disability that supposedly prevented him from walking.
My mind raced–Hugo’s legs weren’t disabled! He had been faking it all along!
For a moment, I almost felt sorry for Jocelyn, being played so thoroughly by Hugo.
But she had brought this on herself.
Susan had witnessed everything too and looked stunned before breaking into giggles. “All I can say is your brother and your ex–girlfriend truly deserve each other.”
I smiled wryly and used my fork to place some beef slices on her plate. “Stop enjoying the drama. Didn’t you bring me out for a late–night snack?”
Despite my words, my thoughts drifted.
I wondered how Jocelyn would feel if she discovered Hugo’s legs weren’t actually disabled.
Afterward, I hired a private investigator to look into some things.
The results came back quickly.
Looking at the information the investigator sent, I couldn’t help but laugh.

Jocelyn was truly too clever for her own good.
The report showed that the accident had happened when Hugo was speeding after leaving another woman’s bed—he wasn’t rushing to deliver medicine to Jocelyn at all.
He had simply seen Jocelyn’s Facebook post and set up this scheme to steal my lover.
Jocelyn believed Hugo had injured his legs while trying to bring her medicine, and she’d been moved to tears. From that moment on, our relationship had steadily deteriorated.
The ploy might have been cliché, but it worked perfectly on Jocelyn.
Hugo’s legs had indeed been injured, but nowhere near as severely as we’d been led to believe.
After treatment, he could have stopped using the wheelchair long
ago.
But to drive a wedge between Jocelyn and me, he kept up the wheelchair act for all those Christmases, only standing and walking in places where no one knew him.
Moreover, his fertility wasn’t affected either.
The frozen embryo conception process was extremely painful, yet despite being perfectly capable of having children naturally, he watched Jocelyn run to the hospital daily, suffering through
injections and treatments to conceive his child.
Seeing all this, my hatred for Jocelyn had vanished. She seemed like a joke now–reducing herself to this state for someone who didn’t even love her.
But what truly sent chills down my spine was discovering that my mother knew everything.
Despite knowing the truth, she had chosen my brother over me without hesitation, helping him cover up everything while watching him take what should have been mine.
Fortunately, I no longer expected any love from her.
This time, I would simply watch coldly from the sidelines to see how it all ended for them.
