Liam’s POV

After everyone cleared out of my office, I seized the moment to handle some lingering calls and tackle paperwork that had been piling up. Time slipped away faster than I expected, and before knew it, Damian appeared at my door, practically dragging me out for our lunch appointment.
On our way back, I made an impromptu decision to swing by the little bakery down the street. Hazel had seemed particularly stressed lately, and I figured a small gesture might help ease some of that tension. My curiosity about her son’s father was eating at me, but I knew better than to push when she was already wound so tight.

When I returned to find her hunched over her desk, fingers flying across the keyboard, I couldn’t help but smile. She looked up when I asked about her boy, entire face lit up as she told me he was doing wonderfully and chattering away as usual. That smile of hers could power half the city.
As the afternoon wore on and the office began to empty, I found myself watching the clock. Near closing time, I stepped out of my office and called her name. When she approached, I locked the door behind her, noting how her eyes widened at the sound of the lock clicking into place.
I gestured toward the leather couch in the corner. She hesitated for just a moment before settling herself down, crossing those long legs that had been driving me to distraction all day. I had a dozen questions burning on my tongue, but I’d already decided to save them for tomorrow when we could talk at my place, somewhere less formal and intimidating.
I retrieved the small plate holding our slice of chocolate cake and offered it to her. Her lips curved into that shy smile that made my chest tighten in the best possible way.
“I thought I’d add a little sweetness to your day,” I said, letting my gaze linger on her face, “Our cake?” she asked, and I caught that playful note in her voice that made my pulse quicken. “Absolutely. Half belongs to me, as always. Unless you’re planning to offer me something even better”
Her eyes sparkled with mischief. “Liam, are you flirting with me again?”
“I never stopped.”
She shot me a look that could have melted steel and took a delicate bite of the cake, her eyes drifting closed as she savored it. The soft sound that escaped her lips sent heat shooting

straight through me, and I had to grip the edge of my desk to keep from reaching for her immediately.
“Aren’t you going to share any of that with me, Hazel?”
“Sorry,” she said, taking another bite in a way that was absolutely deliberate in its sensuality. “It’s just too good to share.”
I moved closer, close enough to catch the subtle scent of her perfume mixed with something. uniquely her. My hand found her thigh, and I let my fingers trace a slow path upward while she continued to eat that cake like it was the most erotic thing I’d ever witnessed.
