7 Chapter 7
Alexander paid me a visit, bringing fruit along. He positioned himself beside my bed, deftly peeling an apple with a small knife.
“Don’t fret, I won’t let Olivia off lightly. And you needn’t concern yourself with the hospital expenses.”
I gave him a puzzled look: “What’s that supposed to mean? Have your feelings for Olivia changed?”
Alexander’s hand halted. He lifted his gaze, his intense eyes meeting mine.
“I’ve only now grasped the true meaning of affection. My feelings for her aren’t genuine. So Lily, please don’t abandon me.”
A shiver ran through me as I noticed his knife resting gently on my fingers.
I instinctively recoiled, but he grasped my shoulder, pressing his forehead against mine, our breaths intermingling.
“Swear you won’t leave me.”
However, I calmly pushed him away: “Alexander, were you already betrothed to Olivia while you were with me?”
Panic flashed in Alexander’s eyes, but he leaned in closer, enveloping me in his embrace. “Allow me to explain. That arrangement was made long ago. I never took it seriously.”
“But you genuinely cared for her. When we were together, you still had feelings for her, didn’t you?”
I gazed at him steadily, attempting to create some distance between us with my uninjured arm. “It’s not like that.”
His eyes appeared slightly reddened, but his grip on the fruit knife tightened.
“Lily, you’re the only one I love.”
He brought the knife near my throat, then closed his eyes and kissed me.
I felt my skin crawl. It seemed he’d truly lost his mind.
Fortunately, Ethan arrived just in time. He struck Alexander, knocking him down, and positioned himself in front of me.
“Alexander Mitchell, you’ve gone mad! Let me tell you, Lily will never have feelings for you

again!”
Alexander rose, wiping blood from his split lip.
He gazed at me with dark eyes, suddenly smirking: “Lily, you will come to love me.”
No, I won’t.
Not only will I never care for him again, I intend to bring him down.
His family had previously developed a housing project, but construction had ceased for six months.
He’d once casually mentioned that despite having the funds, they wouldn’t resume building. Thus, the eagerly anticipated development became an abandoned site.
Yet the buyers‘ money had been pocketed by his family, used for other business ventures or personal expenses.
I’d researched it before. A single one of Alexander’s shirts cost thousands, and his watch was worth over a million.
Such people could never empathize with ordinary individuals.
It was the same with me. He merely viewed me as his possession.
I anonymously sent the recording to several prominent journalists. The Mitchell Group soon became a trending topic.
The homebuyers who’d paid deposits became anxious, demanding answers from the company. The Mitchell Group’s stock value plummeted in a single day, forcing Alexander’s grandfather to publicly promise they’d complete the housing project.
Though I’d disguised my voice, Alexander would know it was me.
Despite my precautions, he still caught me.
When I regained consciousness, I found myself in a pitch–dark room.
Alexander lit a candle. His pale face in the flickering light took on an eerie appearance.
I thought he’d come for vengeance and was prepared to face the consequences.
But Alexander simply set down the candle and approached me, reaching out to caress my face.
“You released the recording?”
I turned away, deciding to be forthright: “Yes, what do you plan to do about it?”
His voice suddenly deepened: “So all along, you never truly loved me?”

I nodded: “Of course not. How could I ever genuinely care for someone like you?”
“Then who do you love? Someone like Ethan?”
“What’s wrong with Ethan? Do I need your approval for who I care about? Besides, Ethan is far superior to you.”
As soon as I finished speaking, he bit me.
I was startled and frightened, unsure if he’d completely lost his sanity.
Alexander seemed utterly transformed. He kissed and bit me like a feral animal.
He kept repeating: “But I love you. You must love me too.”
I couldn’t help trying to evade him, but he held me even tighter.
