Chapter 5
When Sophia clung to Christopher’s arm and acted coquettish, he finally looked away from me and turned to leer at Sophia’s chest instead.
“Baby, why are you still wearing sunglasses? Are your eyes bothering you?”
Sophia instinctively adjusted her sunglasses. “I’ve been straining my eyes lately and they’re a bit inflamed. The doctor recommended I wear sunglasses.”
Christopher gallantly opened the passenger door of his Porsche for her.
The restaurant was a three–Michelin–starred establishment.
As soon as we walked in, Megan and Lauren Phillips were stunned by the luxurious décor.
“Sophia! Christopher spoils you so much, bringing us to a place like this!”
Christopher suddenly asked me, “Amelia, do you like this restaurant?”
I was surprised and answered casually, “As long as the food’s good.”
He smiled meaningfully. “That’s good then.”
Sophia shot me a vicious glare.
I couldn’t be bothered with such petty drama.
In the private dining room, Nathaniel and two other guys had already arrived.
After Christopher’s brief introductions, we all took our seats.
I happened to sit next to Nathaniel. He looked particularly fresh and handsome today, and seemed a bit shy when he caught me stealing glances at him.
Christopher handed me the menu. “What would you like to eat?”
Sophia immediately pouted, “Why are you asking her first? I’m your girlfriend!”
Christopher grabbed another menu and asked her, “Baby, what would you like?”
Sophia wouldn’t let it go. “Then swear you only love me! You’re not allowed to look at other girls!”
With so many people watching, Christopher felt somewhat embarrassed, but still said gently, “Of course I love you most. This afternoon I’ll take you to buy that new Hermès bag.”
Megan and Lauren exclaimed excitedly, “Sophia, we’re so jealous of you. Oh my God! You two are perfect together!”
Sophia smugly leaned against Christopher’s shoulder. “He said he wants to make me the happiest woman alive.”
Just then, Christopher’s other roommate Benjamin Kingsley suddenly asked, “Sophia, did you go to the Maldives by yourself?”
Sophia said awkwardly, “My parents took me. They run a company and only have time in the summer…”
Megan immediately chimed in earnestly, “Sophia’s family is super rich! Her dad is the CEO of a publicly traded company, she’s just being modest!”
Knowing the truth, I found it all ridiculous.
Nathaniel quietly poured me a glass of water. “Your roommate is pretty naive.”
I almost laughed out loud, not expecting him to make such a sarcastic comment.
I nodded.
Suddenly, two burly men burst in. Under our bewildered stares, they grabbed Sophia. “When are you going to pay back the fifty thousand dollars you owe us? It’s been over two months. You won’t even answer our calls. Trying to skip out on your debt?“
