Chapter 8
Worry surged through me as I realized this matter concerned
- me.
I grabbed Nathaniel’s arm and said, “Since it’s about me, how can I not get involved? Don’t worry, I’ve been through worse situations.”
I had already died once–I wouldn’t be afraid of anything
anymore.
Nathaniel remained silent for a moment before finally telling me what happened.
Christopher had called to say that a compromising video of me had appeared online, but he believed in my character and decided to inform Nathaniel about it.
I immediately opened my phone and sure enough, saw a video of me wearing revealing lingerie. Everyone understood what this implied.
Nathaniel took my phone away, saying, “This video must be AI–generated. I need to analyze it with professional software.”
By then, some classmates had already recognized me.
“Look, it’s that girl. She still dares to come to school.”
“How disgusting.”
Nathaniel wanted to confront them, but I held him back.
I said, “It’s useless. We need to find evidence that the video is
fake.”
Nathaniel nodded. “I’ll get my laptop. Let’s find a quiet place to analyze it.”
We analyzed the video in an empty classroom. Soon I discovered a flaw–the me in the video had a mole on my neck, which I don’t have at all.
Nathaniel also found an issue. No matter how much the me in the video moved, my hair remained perfectly still.
This video was definitely AI–generated.
Suddenly, I spotted a website URL in the corner of the video.
It was actually a pornographic website. My video was placed in the most prominent position.
Someone was using AI face–swap videos to make money.
I immediately called the police.
The police quickly identified the suspect through the IP address -Sophia.
When she was called to the administration office by university officials, she still looked smug..
It wasn’t until she saw me, Nathaniel, and two police officers that she panicked.
The female officer placed the website video in front of her and asked, “Sophia Johnson, did you upload this?”
Sophia argued defensively, “It wasn’t me! That’s clearly Amelia. You should be asking her!”
The officer said calmly, “Experts have determined this is an AI face–swap video, sent from your computer. You should know this constitutes a criminal offense.”
Only then did Sophia become truly frightened.
“Officer, I just wanted to make some money to pay off debts. I’ll delete the video right now. Can you please let me go?”
She had indeed done this to pay off loan sharks–no wonder she hadn’t seemed desperate for money lately.
Seeing the police unmoved, Sophia pleaded with me, “Amelia, I’m sorry. Can you ask them not to prosecute me?”
I shook off her hand and said, “You used such methods to make money and ruined my reputation. I will never forgive you!”
Sophia suddenly turned vicious, “I just hate you! Even Nathaniel likes you, all because you’re pretty. I want to destroy you! What’s wrong with wanting others to like me? Is it my fault that my plastic surgery failed? Why do you all mock me?”
Nathaniel stepped protectively in front of me and said seriously, “You’re wrong. I love Amelia because she goes to the library at 7 AM every day and never stops studying even when she’s sick. Even if she were disfigured, I would still love her.”
The office fell silent.
Sophia stared at him blankly, then suddenly collapsed to her knees, sobbing.
But the law wouldn’t forgive her. She was sentenced to six months in prison for distributing obscene materials. The university expelled her.
A young college student’s future was ruined just like that.
Later, Nathaniel and I attended graduate school at the same university.
On enrollment day, he confessed to me, “Amelia, would you be willing to spend the rest of your life with me?”
I took his hand and smiled, “Of course, Nathaniel.”
