Kayson’s dark eyes swept casually across Valerie’s face, a faint smile on his lips.
He then changed the topic. “Even though you’ve chosen Kendrick, you two still won’t be able to be together.”
Valerie was taken aback. Somehow, she felt Kayson was setting a trap for her.
She stared at him in astonishment. “Mr. Deven, that’s not what you said earlier.”
“What did I say?” Kayson’s eyes narrowed slightly. “I never promised that if you gave up the project, I’d approve of you two being together.”
Valerie became nervous.
Kayson’s voice carried on. “You know about what happened last night. It made quite a commotion. As the head of the Deven family, if I don’t handle it, it’ll be terrible.”
Valerie bit her lip hard. “But I truly love Kendrick. Please don’t split us up.”
Kayson leaned back on the sofa. “Not splitting you up? That’s good. If you marry Kendrick, it’ll be a permanent solution, and I’ll be spared the trouble.”
Valerie’s eyes widened in surprise. Marry Kendrick? Of course, she wanted to!
However, the Deven family was a noble rich family, highly concerned about bloodlines.
