Chapter 45
Talia gripped her phone tightly with her fingertips. “Could you please pass the phone to your boss?”
Gavin’s voice carried a hint of awkwardness. “Ms. Taylor, my boss drank a great deal tonight. He might not be able…”
Before he could finish his sentence, Kayson, who was sitting in the back seat and was supposed to be dozing off with his eyes closed, suddenly opened his eyes.
He waved his hand and snatched Gavin’s phone. “Yes? You want to talk to me?”
Gavin was startled and scratched the back of his head in bewilderment.
He thought to himself, “Mr. Deven could barely walk on his own and needed my support just a moment ago. How come he seems to have sobered up all of a sudden?
“This is incredible!”
Kayson, though drunk, had a deep, resonant voice, with a somewhat drowsy yet magnetic quality to it.
Talia was taken aback. The instant his lazy and pleasant voice reached her ears, a shiver ran down her spine and
goosebumps prickled all over her body.
How could someone have such an enchanting voice?
“Talia?”

It wasn’t until Kayson on the other end of the line called her name clearly that Talia finally snapped out of her trance.
She patted her own cheek to wake herself up. “Can I come and see you?”
“Yes,” Kayson agreed without hesitation. Maybe it was the effect of the excessive alcohol he’d consumed that made his speech a bit slower and slurred.
“Hold on. I’ll come to the hospital to see you.”
“There’s no rush,” Talia said, pursing her red lips.
She could tell he was quite drunk. It would be better to
discuss things like this when he was sober, and she wasn’t in a hurry either.
However, since Gavin referred to him as “boss,” Talia was a bit curious about what kind of company he ran.
She mused to herself, “Doing business isn’t easy these days. Even as a boss, one still has to handle socializing personally… and end up getting drunk…
“Most likely because of the company’s affairs, he has to yield to others.”
Talia clenched her hands into fists and then relaxed them again. “Let’s make it tomorrow. You can pick the place.”
After a moment of hesitation, Talia suggested, “How about eleven o’clock in the morning? Is that okay?”
He was drunk and would probably wake up late. This time wouldn’t disrupt his rest.

“Eight o’clock,” Kayson said, reaching out to rub the space between his eyebrows to ease the ache in his head.
Talia was taken aback. “Eight o’clock?”
“Yeah. I’ll come and pick you up at eight o’clock.”
Talia was surprised that he actually knew that she was going to be discharged from the hospital tomorrow morning.
Talia was about to say there was no need for him to go to the trouble, but then she thought they would be meeting tomorrow anyway, so she silently agreed.
After hanging up the phone, Talia lay alone on the bed in the hospital ward.
Jessica had intended to stay with her in the hospital, but due to a business trip, Jessica had to head to the airport in the middle of the night to catch a flight.
Jessica was a dancer. Three years ago, she broke her leg in an accident, which put an end to her dancing career. She then switched to become a model.
It wasn’t easy to break into the modeling industry. In Jessica’s own words, she “hadn’t made ends meet for three years.”
Worried about disturbing Talia’s rest, Jessica left as soon as it got dark.
That night, Talia didn’t sleep well because she had something weighing on her mind.
When she woke up the next day, it was 7:30.
Talia, out of habit, took out her mobile phone, and a news

item popped up. The headline was in large, bold letters, making it very eye–catching.

“Shocking! Mr. Deven’s Glamorous Night Party! A Romantic Encounter, Suspected Infidelity!!”
Mr. Deven?
Wasn’t that Kendrick?
Talia took a quick glance and clicked in to see more. Sure enough, Kendrick’s photo showed up on her phone screen.
He was leaning on Valerie’s shoulder, and the two of them were embracing each other as they appeared outside a hotel in the middle of the night.
As Talia scrolled down with her fingers, more and more details came into view.
This morning, Kendrick and Valerie had walked out of the hotel room only to be surrounded by many reporters outside.
They entered the hotel late last night and spent the whole night in the same room, not coming out until seven o’clock this morning.
A man and a woman alone in a room–one could easily imagine what had happened.
It made Talia sick.
In the photo, Kendrick was shielding Valerie’s face from the
cameras.
Talia’s lips curled into a bitter, self–mocking smile. It was undeniable. Valerie had stolen her fiance.

She thought to herself, “I wonder how Mom and Dad will react when they see this.
“Will they regret standing up for Valerie like that before?”
The mere thought of her parents‘ partiality somehow upset Talia.
But suddenly….
The door of the room opened, and Kayson walked in, looking dapper in a suit.
“I’ve already finished the discharge procedures for you.”
His voice was gentle, like the moment the first rays of sunlight pierced through the morning sky, effortlessly dispelling the mist in the forest.
“So,” Kayson lowered his eyes slightly, meeting Talia’s gaze, “Have you given any thought to my proposal?”
He was referring to the proposal of marriage.
Talia noticed that Kayson was wearing the same shirt she had seen him in last time. However, the third button that she had tugged off before had been sewn back on.
Her hands clenched into fists and then relaxed again, an obvious look of shyness on her face.
“I’m willing to marry you, but,” Talia lowered her head and reached for her phone.
“I spent all night drafting a prenuptial agreement last night. Would you like to take a look?”

Kayson remained silent.
Talia watched Kayson’s expression closely,
Seeing him furrow his brows, Talia was confused, thinking, “Did I say something inappropriate?”
Talia hadn’t been able to sleep last night, so she had thought things through carefully.
She had nothing at the moment, while this man was good- looking and quite rich.
If she married him, she would be the one getting the better deal.
After much deliberation, Talia had simply drawn up a prenuptial agreement.
The terms weren’t excessive. They mainly dealt with property.
After marriage, they would split expenses, and if they ever divorced, she would leave with nothing.
After all, she was alone now, with nothing to her name, and she even relied on Kayson to provide her with a place to stay.
“I’ll send it to you now.” With that, Talia swiped the screen to unlock her phone.
Kayson approached her quietly, catching Talia off–guard. Right after, he grasped her delicate wrist.
“There’s no need for an agreement.”
A faint minty fragrance emanated from him, blended with the scent of men’s aftershave, creating a refreshing and

The sudden physical contact rendered Talia speechless. Her eyes locked onto his hand clasping her wrist, and her cheeks swiftly flushed an unnatural shade of red.
“Half of all my assets will be yours.”
As he looked at Talia, he could faintly see a blush creeping behind her ears.
Kayson wondered if it was because of the direct sunlight.
He turned slightly, trying to block the sunlight for her. “I’ll cover all family expenses.”
Talia blinked in innocence, finding it hard to believe.
“But what if we get divorced? Won’t you lose a great deal?”
Kayson’s brows knitted slightly. “Divorce?”
