Chapter 51
Talia seemed frightened. Without even a glance at Kayson on the sofa, she pushed him away and bolted into the room without looking back.
The moment the door shut, Kayson, who’d been drunk, woke
- up.
He gently ran his fingers over his thin lips, still craving more.
Just then, he received a text from Tyson, “Home yet?”
Kayson: “Yes.”
Tyson: “Responding so fast? Are you drunk or not?”
Kayson turned and eyed the closed room door.
The corners of his lips twitched upward. After over ten seconds, he picked up his phone and typed, “I’m getting married tomorrow.”
The topic shifted too abruptly, catching Tyson off–guard.
When he realized what was going on, he blurted, “No way. Did you drink too much and dream you got a wife?”
Kayson was full of swagger, “I’m serious. My wife’s in my room, on my bed.”
On the other end, Tyson was silent for a full minute.
“Talia?”

Kayson: “Yeah.”
Tyson: “What were you doing in the room?”

Kayson: “Man and woman, late at night, drunk, alone. What do you think? Do I need to tell you?”
Tyson thought Kayson was acting like a jerk. He didn’t say much, but every word was a suggestive hint.
Kayson: “No disrespect. Just reminding you to get a gift for your sister–in–law.”
Tyson was speechless.
He figured Kayson was in high spirits and chatting non–stop late at night because something had happened.
It turned out that Kayson was boasting about having a wife.
On the other side, after Talia shut the door, her heart raced.
She lay in bed and took deep breaths for a long while before gradually calming down.
She never thought her first kiss would go to Kayson, someone she’d only met a few times.
Even more absurd, she was marrying Kayson tomorrow, and she didn’t even know his name yet.
Talia had never been interested in anyone but Kendrick, let alone had such intimate contact.
In truth, the reason for her rushed marriage wasn’t just to find a place to stay.

She was exhausted, worn out.

Having endured the cruelest abandonment and seen how devious her family and ex–lover were, she just wanted to find someone to build a life with.
Talia knew clearly that her relationship with Kendrick was over. Since she’d decided to marry, she was ready to start anew with this man.
But wasn’t this moving a bit too fast?
It was just their first night together, and they’d already… kissed?
Talia’s cheeks grew redder the more she thought.
When some intimate images flashed through her mind, she couldn’t help but huddle under the quilt and squirm shyly.
She patted her cheek, trying to force herself to stop those thoughts.
She drifted off into a daze. When she opened her eyes again, sunlight was streaming through the window.
After freshening up in the room, Talia stood there, head down, fidgeting with her fingers, unsure whether to go out.
Just then, there was a knock on the room door.
Kayson’s deep, magnetic voice came from outside. “Are you awake?”
Talia was taken aback. She took a deep breath and walked over to open the door.

What greeted her was Kayson’s handsome face.
He wore a classic white shirt, black trousers, and a bow tie, making his already noble air even more pronounced.
He looked as if he’d stepped right out of a romantic soap
opera.
As their eyes met, Kayson’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and his dark eyes fixed intently on Talia’s charming red lips. “Come out for breakfast.”
Talia lowered her head slightly.
She thought, “He seems unchanged, so he probably didn’t remember that we… kissed last night.
“It makes sense. Few drunk people recall what happened.”
Talia let out a sigh of relief and followed Kayson to the dining
room.
Breakfast consisted of chicken sandwiches. Despite just having a sandwich, Kayson made it appear as if he were relishing fine dining.
She thought, “There aren’t any servants at home, so this sandwich… Did he make it himself?
“I’m staying in his house. Not only did I wake up later than him, but I also had him cook for me. Isn’t that a bit too presumptuous?”
“Well…” Talia looked up at him and said tentatively, “I’ll make breakfast from now on.”
Hearing this, Kayson put down his fork, as if he could read her

mind.
“In our home, it doesn’t matter who cooks.”
Our home?

Talia was taken aback. His words filled her with a warm, wonderful feeling.
It was as if a gentle breeze had stirred the lake in her heart, causing ripples to spread layer by layer.
Did she finally have a home of her own?
“Eat more,” Kayson said, sliding the bacon from his plate in front of Talia. His gesture was natural and intimate. “I don’t want you to be too thin.”
Talia pursed her lips and nodded dumbly.
She was truly extremely thin. Standing at 1.68 meters tall, she weighed under 45 kilograms. Her thinness was quite
ridiculous.
After breakfast, Talia instinctively went to wash the dishes, but Kayson stopped her.
“Part–time cleaners will come to tidy up later. You don’t have to do this.”
“Then what should I do?”
“Put on some weight.”
Talia didn’t know what to say.
Talia suddenly remembered a crucial question.
Lo

“I haven’t got to know your name yet.”
Kayson’s hand paused as he was about to fasten the last button of his coat, then he turned around.
Their eyes locked, and his large hand grasped her wrist.

Before Talia could react, he intertwined his fingers with hers.
Feeling the warmth of his hand around hers, Talia looked up in shock and met Kayson’s half–smiling eyes.
“Kayson Deven.”
Talia was startled. She wondered, “His surname is Deven as well?”
“Why is his name quite familiar to me?”
While she was in a daze, Kayson leaned in, and his warm breath brushed against her face, making her feel a bit tingly.
“Don’t be so reserved when you’re with me. After all, we kissed last night, right? Mrs. Deven.”
Talia was speechless.
She felt jolted as if by an electric current. Shyly, her fingertips instinctively curled into a fist.
She thought, “What’s going on? So he actually remembers what happened last night?
“Then why had he acted as if nothing happened when he saw me this morning?
“He’s so … strange.”

On the way to the City Hall, Talia was in a daze.

She didn’t fully come to her senses until they completed the formalities and received the marriage certificate.
Gazing at the small marriage certificate glinting in the sunlight, Talia realized she was now the legitimate Mrs.
Deven.
However, the groom wasn’t Kendrick, the man she had dreamed of countless times.
It was Kayson, who shared the same surname but had nothing else in common with Kendrick.
Kayson noticed Talia’s distraction. “Are you thinking about another man?” he asked.
Talia’s eyes dimmed.
A bitter sentiment stole into her heart, not on Kendrick’s account, but for herself and her years of stubborn. perseverance.
Kayson’s eyes darkened and his large hand enclosed her fingertips.
Before Talia could react, he slipped a diamond ring onto her ring finger.
The ring’s design wasn’t overly showy and happened to be exactly what she liked.
